What's Next for Britney Spears?

Jan. 18, 2013— -- Big changes are ahead for Britney Spears: in one day, she announced that she's leaving "The X Factor" and breaking off her engagement with fiance Jason Trawick.

Now, a source close to the singer told ABCNews.com that there are "offers and serious discussions" with regards to a residency in Las Vegas.

Since last week, there have been reports that the singer has been in talks to headline her own nightly show. Spears, 31, stands to make millions per week and possibly top Celine Dion's reported $100 million payday for her three-year Vegas residency.

"I wouldn't be surprised," People staffer Carlos Greer, who has reported on Britney Spears for the magazine, told ABCNews.com. "She a fantastic performer -- the type of superstar that kind of show wants."

Change hasn't always been a good thing for Spears, but Greer thinks the pop star will put her immediate focus on her career -- which, for her, is a good thing.

"That's when you see Britney at her best, when you see her at her most stable, is when she's working," he said.

Spears announced last week that she was leaving "X Factor" to work on a new album.

"I had an incredible time doing the show and I love the other judges and I am so proud of my teens but it's time for me to get back in the studio," she said in a statement. "Watching them all do their thing up on that stage every week made me miss performing so much! I can't wait to get back out there and do what I love most."

"We've seen with Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler on 'American Idol,' these are entertainers, and judging takes up a lot of time. It's a very different career," Greer said. "I bet you Britney did get the itch to get back on stage. Her music probably comes first, before being a judge."

On the same day Spears announced her "X Factor" exit, she broke the news of her breakup with Trawick, 41.

"Jason and I have decided to call off our engagement. I'll always adore him and we will remain great friends," Spears said in a statement sent by her representative to ABC News.

"As this chapter ends for us a new one begins," Trawick said in the statement. "I love and cherish her and her boys and we will be close forever."

Spears, the mother of sons Sean Preston, 7, and Jayden, 6, began seeing her former agent in 2009 and they got engaged in December 2011. But a source told People, "there were some major challenges and hurdles and constant work that needed to be done. ... It just wasn't working and things weren't going to change, so it was time to let go."

Trawick, who had also been named as a co-conservator for the pop star to handle her personal affairs, resigned from that post on the day of the announcement, according to The Associated Press. Spears' father, Jamie, who has been his daughter's conservator since her emotional breakdown in February 2008, continues to manage her financial affairs.

Spears' years with Trawick were mostly trouble-free, which raises the question: what happens now?

"I'm sure there's probably concern," said Greer. "Since Jason, she has been on the upswing. It seems like her health and general well being are a priority in her life."

"It's unclear how she's going to handle the breakup, but it seems like she's doing okay and putting on a good face," Greer added. "She's going to need some time to cope and figure out what she wants. I don't see her jumping back into the dating pool anytime soon. I really do think in the immediate future she'll be focusing on her career."
