Caitlyn Jenner Sued by Second Party in Malibu Crash
It was filed for personal injury and property damage.
— -- A second party has filed suit against Caitlyn Jenner for the Malibu crash in February that left one woman dead.
Jessica Steindorff filed a lawsuit on Monday for personal injury and property damage in Los Angeles Superior Court and is seeking unspecified damages, according to court documents obtained by ABC News.
The lawsuit states that Steindorff was driving in her vehicle at the time of the multi-car pile-up on Feb. 7. The suit claims Steindorff was injured when Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce Jenner, caused a collision with Steindorff’s vehicle. According to the police report of the accident, a Lexus involved in the crash initially rear-ended Steindorff’s car. In all four cars were involved in the crash, police said.
Jenner "was the third car in a multiple rear-end collision," Sheriff Department Sgt. Philip Brooks said.
Five people were hospitalized with minor injuries, according to the Sheriff's Department.
Jenner, 65, was first served with a wrongful-death lawsuit in May filed by the stepchildren of the late Kimberly Howe, 69, who was also in the accident and in the white Lexus when she was then hit by Jenner’s vehicle and sent into oncoming traffic, resulting in her death, according to that lawsuit.
The two stepchildren -- William Howe, 57, and Dana Redmond, 60 -- allege in the lawsuit that Jenner was "negligent" when her SUV hit Howe's Lexus, but Jenner's legal team has already responded in court and have argued that Jenner should not be financially responsible to the Howe's stepchildren and have asked the court to dismiss the case.
Jenner's lawyers added, "We ... continue to express sincerest sympathies for the friends and family of Kimberly Howe. ... The plaintiffs' lack of standing to file this case is no comment at all upon their grief or affection. It is merely a statement of law."
Jenner has not been charged in the February crash.
Jenner, who was uninjured in the crash, released a statement the day after the incident, saying, "My heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones, and to all of those who were involved or injured in this terrible accident. It is a devastating tragedy and I cannot pretend to imagine what this family is going through at this time. I am praying for them. I will continue to cooperate in every way possible."
