Will Cameron Diaz Join Yankee Wives Club?
Diaz' relationship with Alex Rodriguez heats up after she meets his kids.
Dec. 21, 2010 -- Ever since Joe DiMaggio married Marilyn Monroe, the New York Yankees have flirted with Hollywood.
The latest flirtation, between slugger Alex Rodriguez and actress Cameron Diaz, appears to be heating up. This past weekend, Diaz spent time with A-Rod and his daughters, 6-year-old Natasha and two-year-old Ella, in Cabo, Mexico.
Diaz cozied up poolside with Rodriguez's daughters while wearing a skin-tight white dress and one of her infamous skimpy bikinis. The Yankees star reportedly sat back, watching the girls having fun.
Though they have never officially announced they were dating, the couple has been linked since spring. They reportedly split in October but reunited the following month. During a steamy Thanksgiving getaway, also in Mexico, they were seen taking turns hosing off each other's rock-hard abs after a swim in the ocean. Earlier this month, they attended the wedding of Rodriguez's teammate Nick Swisher to sitcom star Joanna Garcia.
Any suggestion that a Diaz-Rodriguez wedding will follow, in light of the actress spending time with the slugger's daughters, is certainly premature.
At 38, Diaz, who dated Justin Timberlake for four years, has shown she's in no hurry to get married. And Rodriguez, 35, whose six-year marriage to Cynthia Scurtis -- the mother of his children -- ended in scandal in 2008 after he was linked to Madonna, seems to be enjoying the dating life. In 2009, he dated actress Kate Hudson, making headlines for their constant PDAs, reportedly abundant sex life and the golden-haired actress' presence at Yankee games.
"They seem to really be enjoying each other," Us Weekly entertainment director Dina Sansing told ABCNews.com at the time. "The relationship is lasting longer than anyone would have thought, and some people are even crediting her with his recent success in the post-season. She seems like she's having the time of her life."
The couple split in December, however, and by May, Rodriguez was reportedly seeing Diaz. He's not the only member of the team who has a thing for actresses. Here's a lineup of four Yankee wives/girlfriends, including two who are decidedly not Hollywood.
Minka Kelly
Actress Minka Kelly, 30, a regular on Maxim's Hot 100 list and this year's Esquire Magazine's Sexiest Woman Alive, is reportedly engaged to Derek Jeter, 36.
The former "Friday Night Lights" star and daughter of Aerosmith guitarist Rick Dufay has been linked to the Yankee shortstop off and on since 2008. Earlier this year, rumors surfaced that the pair were planning fall nuptials.
Though they haven't gotten hitched, they appear to be a couple, whether vacationing in St. Barts or getting coffee from the local Starbucks.
Apparently both share a love for good manners. When an interviewer for Esquire commented on Kelly's good manners, she told him, "My boyfriend noticed that about me, too. He's the same way, and he said it was a good way to judge someone's character."
Joanna Garcia
Joanna Garcia appears to be an equally nice girl. The 31-year-old star of the ABC sitcom "Better With You," married Yankee outfielder Nick Swisher in May.
The month before their wedding, Swisher, 30, told People: "I think for the first time in my life, I have a woman who I could not be more proud of. We do such a great job really pushing the other one to do better and I think that's what you have to have."
Guests of the Palm Beach wedding included Garcia's cast mates, Cameron Diaz, Swisher's Yankee teammate Alex Rodriguez and former teammate Johnny Damon, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Lance Bass and Reba McEntire, who played Garcia's mother on "Reba."
Garcia, who was once engaged to Trace Ayala, Justin Timberlake's personal assistant and childhood friend, began seeing Swisher in August 2009, according to People, and the couple became engaged in May.
Garcia may be able to learn the ropes about being a Yankee wife from these two non-celebrity wives:
Laura Posada
Jorge Posada's wife Laura Posada is no slouch. At 38, she's an attorney, certified personal trainer and published author.
According to the Daily News, the couple first met as teenagers in their native Puerto Rico, then reacquainted 10 years later in a bar, where the Yankees catcher reportedly said: "I'm going to make that woman my wife."
He did in January 2000. Kids, Jorge Luis, and Paulina followed. But the family's strength was tested when Jorge Luis, who was born with craniosynostosis, a condition in which the sutures which hold the plates of the skull together, fuse before a child's brain has finished growing, had to undergo eight different operations since birth. Now 10, Jorge Luis appears to be out of the woods.
Laura, who co-founded the Jorge Posada Foundation to raise money and awareness for craniosynostosis, is determined to help other kids dealing with the condition.
Amber Sabathia
Amber Sabathia, 27, married her high school sweetheart, Yankee pitcher CC Sabathia, in 2003, soon after graduating from high school.
No slouch herself, she reportedly earned her college degree while raising their three children. And she appears to wield considerable influence over her husband.
A California girl, she reportedly rebuffed the Yankees' efforts to recruit her husband because she didn't want to raise her kids in New York. After a third day of negotiations, CC reportedly asked General Manager Brian Cashman to make a pitch to Amber face-to-face. Following the meeting, CC signed with the Yankees.
