How Carrie Fisher Lost 35 Pounds for 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'
"They don’t want to hire all of me – only about three-quarters!" she said.
-- It's been more than three decades since Carrie Fisher played Princess Leia -- now General Leia -- in the "Star Wars" franchise.
But she's back now, speaking to Good Housekeeping U.K. about dropping 35 pounds for her big role in "The Force Awakens."
"They don’t want to hire all of me – only about three-quarters!" she said. "I’m in a business where the only thing that matters is weight and appearance."
Fisher said there was no secret to dropping the weight, just basic diet and exercise.
"There is no other way to do it. I have a harder time eating properly than I do exercising," she added. "It’s easier for me to add an activity than to deny myself something. When I do lose the weight I don’t like that it makes me feel good about myself. It’s not who I am. My problem is they talk to me like an actress but I hear them like a writer."
Last month, Fisher told Time magazine how Leia had changed over the years and as usual, she was very honest.
"Oh, my God, she got so much older. I tried to stop her, but apparently that includes death so that didn’t seem like a good solution," she told Time. "Along with aging comes life experience, so in every way that is consistent with even being human Leia has changed."
Fisher, the daughter of another acting legend Debbie Reynolds, 83, also told Good Housekeeping about what it was like to come from such an impressive acting lineage and the struggles that came with her family.
"I looked at my mother and said, "Wow, she is gorgeous and I don’t look like her, therefore I’m not pretty," she admitted. "You think, I’ll go into show business because then I’ll get enough love and they will put make-up on me properly and then my life will work."
"The Force Awakens" was produced by Lucasfilm, a part of Disney, the parent company of ABC News.
