Carrie Fisher's Daughter Goes Into Acting Despite Family Objections
"I'm not Princess Leia's daughter," says Billie Lourd.
— -- Despite warnings from her family, Carrie Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd has ventured into the acting world.
"My whole life, they said, ‘Do not act. You need to get a college degree,'" the 22-year-old daughter of Fisher and agent Bryan Lourd told Interview magazine. "I went to performing arts camp, secretly taking classes — I got the lead in the musical, and my dad was like, ‘Wait, I thought you were going here for music and knitting.'"
The young actress just graduated from NYU after studying religion and psychology. The magazine also reports she will be in the new "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" movie out later this year, that picks up where her mother's famous character left off years ago. She clarified one rumor about her role in the film.
"I'm not Princess Leia's daughter," she said.
She added, "This is the first job I've ever had — right into the fire ... This is what I've always wanted. I'm living the dream right now."
Billie Lourd will also be a part of the first season of "Scream Queens," which films this summer.
"The Force Awakens" opens Dec. 18.
