Charlie Brown Voice Actor Accused of Stalking

Jan. 23, 2013— -- The man who voiced the character of Charlie Brown in the "Peanuts" television specials in the late 1960s was arraigned today on felony charges that include stalking.

Peter Robbins, 56, is charged with 12 counts of making criminal threats and stalking, according to a San Diego District Attorney's Office news release. He pleaded not guilty.

The actor was arrested Sunday when he tried to re-enter the United States at the San Ysidro Port of Entry between San Diego and Tijuana, Mexico. A background check by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers yielded a search warrant against Robbins from the San Diego County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokeswoman Angelica de Cima told ABCNews.com.

Robbins was arrested and booked into the San Diego County Jail at 3:39 a.m. on Monday, according to the jail website. He is being held on $550,000 bail.

Details of the arrest warrant were not immediately available.

A preliminary hearing has been set for March 22.

If convicted, Robbins faces up to nine years in state prison for stalking his ex-girlfriend and making criminal threats against a plastic surgeon, according to the San Diego District Attorney's office news release.

Danielle Matthews, Robbins' manager, told the San Diego Union-Tribune she expected to release a statement later today.

Robbins was the voice of Charlie Brown from 1965 to 1969, and voiced the character in several television specials, including "A Charlie Brown Christmas," which remains popular today.

He has also appeared on television shows, including "The Munsters" "Get Smart" and "My Three Sons," according to his IMDB page.

On his Facebook page, the actor lists his name as Peter "Charlie Brown" Robbins and chats with "Peanuts" fans.
