CMA Awards 2010: Miranda Lambert, Brad Paisley Win Big

Nov. 10, 2010 — -- It's official: country music has a new power couple.

Miranda Lambert and her fiancé Blake Shelton had about the best night two country stars could possibly have Wednesday at the 44th Annual Country Music Association (CMA) Awards, carting home five awards in all, including Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year and Video for Miranda, and Male Vocalist and Musical Event of the Year for Blake.

In addition, Miranda's hit "The House that Built Me" was named Song of the Year.

Accepting the award for Female Vocalist from her idol Loretta Lynn towards the end of the night, Miranda said, "I don't know what's going on! I just told Blake I think we need to go to church!"

To top it off, Wednesday was also Miranda's 27th birthday.

Blake's win for Male Vocalist -- his first ever -- earned wild cheers from the crowd, and actual tears from Reba McEntire.

After walking to the podium, Blake said, "That was 34 years' worth of steps for me, y'all. This is a really big deal for me...this is unbelievable!"

Miranda was very emotional after winning Female Vocalist but the Album of the Year win, for Revolution, obviously meant a lot, too.

She told the crowd, "It's my baby. It's what I do. It's what I live for. Thank you so much for loving it too."

Miranda and Blake's big night inspired the show's co-host, Brad Paisley to comment, "After the night they're having, I think we can expect a baby in about nine months."

Paisey's Big Win

Brad was no slouch in the winning department either, taking home a long-awaited Entertainer of the Year trophy. He'd been nominated for the CMA's top award each year since 2005, but it was his first-ever win in that category.

A very emotional Brad told the crowd, "My hero Little Jimmy Dickens has a saying: 'If you see a turtle on a fence post, it had help getting up there.' I feel like a turtle tonight."

He then proceeded to thank the fans, his wife Kimberley, his entire team and his late grandfather, who passed in 1987. Brad recalled that his granddad encouraged him to play the guitar because if he did, he'd never be lonely. "He never thought it would draw 20,000 people," said Brad, wiping away tears.

The other big winners of the night were Lady Antebellum, who took home Single of the Year for "Need You Now" and Vocal Group of the Year.

Hillary Scott thanked her band mates, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood, saying, "I can't imagine two better people to enjoy the ride with...this is so humbling."

Charles thanked his brother, singer Josh Kelley, for "making me move to Nashville six years ago."

Brad Paisley and his co-host, Carrie Underwood, both performed on the show, and kept things moving with jokes that took shots at the BP oil spill, the infidelities of Tiger Woods and Brett Farve, and Carrie's own recent marriage to hockey player Mike Fisher.

In fact, Wednesday was her four-month wedding anniversary.

Brad and Carrie asked Gwyneth Paltrow, who performed later in the show, if she could get them Coldplay tickets, since she's married to the rock band's lead singer, Chris Martin.

Brad also took a shot at Tim McGraw, saying the singer and actor missed the show because he was "on location filming Avatar 2."

A picture of Tim as a blue-skinned Na'vi, complete with tail, was then flashed onscreen.

And as always, Carrie dazzled with countless costume changes, wearing everything from a black and silver jacket and black capri pants, to a floor-length purple confection of a ball gown.
