Recently, a number of channels have replaced their veteran late-night hosts with newer, usually younger, stars -- including Stephen Colbert, set to take David Letterman’s place on CBS next year, and Jimmy Fallon, who replaced Jay Leno on NBC in February.
New shows are adding to the late-night competition -- such as HBO’s "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver," which debuted last month.
The reliably jocular O’Brien began his show on TBS in 2010.
"Conan" doesn’t have the highest ratings -- "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" is leading the race, according to Deadline.com -- but the show boasts a coveted audience: younger viewers ranging from 18 to 34.
What’s more, TeamCoco, "Conan’s" social media presence, has a loyal and solid following.
