'Little People, Big World' Stars Matt and Amy Roloff Separate
"Amy and I stuck it out for years when maybe we shouldn't have," Matt said.
March 12, 2014 -- Matt and Amy Roloff, stars of the TLC series, "Little People, Big World," have separated.
After 26 years of marriage and four children, the couple revealed to ABC News that although they are no longer living together, they are still working together.
"Though we have weathered many storms together, we recently made the tough decision to engage in a trial separation," they said in a statement. "Matt remains living on the farm in our guesthouse and we work together everyday on the farm, on our business endeavors and most importantly, raising our amazing children."
In a new episode on TLC, airing March 25, the couple explains that they split late last year.
"You can call it a separation, if you want, a trial separation, but it's more of just giving each other some space," Matt said. "Last year it was long. Long and tough."
So, as Thanksgiving rolled around, Matt decided to move out of the main house on the family's farm and instead, live in the bridle house. In the clip, it's clear that the couple bickered over little things, like keeping their home clean.
"Amy and I stuck it out for years when maybe we shouldn't have," he explained. "I never quite felt at home in my own home. Something needed to change."
Meanwhile, Amy said that Matt's decision to move out of the house where they raised their four kids, twins Jeremy and Zack, 23, Molly, 20 and Jacob, 17, was his alone. However, she added, "What Matt and I failed to do over many, many years together was learn to live together."
"I am saddened by it," she continued. "We don't have a plan in how we are going to work this out so it's not going to be easy."
In spite of their troubles, the couple did tell ABC News in a statement that they're grateful for the people in their lives who are standing behind them.
"We sincerely appreciate the unwavering support, understanding and prayers from our family, friends and many fans," they said. "May God Bless you."
