‘Dancing With the Stars’ 2014: Randy Couture Gets the Boot in Week 3 of Season 19

Martial artist Randy Couture was voted off 'Dancing With the Stars" tonight.

— -- It was "Movie Night" on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars," and the 11 celebrities competing for the mirror ball trophy did so tonight while dancing to songs from their favorite films.

Unfortunately for Randy Couture however, the curtain officially closed for the mixed martial artist and actor. His super-charged performances earned him the least amount of critical acclaim from the judges and viewers, making tonight’s paso double routine to the theme song from Rocky his final attempt on the dance floor.

“I’m happy,” Couture told host Tom Bergeron even after learning of his fate. “It’s been a great experience. I put myself out there and tried something new. It’s been amazing.”

Couture’s professional dancing partner, Karina Smirnoff, said she wouldn’t change a thing about their time spent together on “DWTS.”

“He’s an amazing man,” she said. “I hope I made a friend for life because this has been a priceless experience and I wouldn’t change it for anything.”

Actor/comedian Kevin Hart was a guest judge tonight, providing plenty of colorful commentary for the contestants to take to heart.

Returning to compete next week are actors Antonio Sabato Jr., Alfonso Ribeiro and Jonathan Bennett, Lea Thompson and fellow actress Janel Parrish, NASCAR racing legend Michael Waltrip, fashion designer Betsey Johnson, reality TV star Sadie Robertson, YouTube beauty guru Bethany Mota and comedian Tommy Chong.

The stars will compete every week for scores from the judges as well as votes from viewers. The star with the lowest combined total will be eliminated each week until the final three compete for the trophy.

Tonight's Routines

Randy Couture: The mixed martial artist and actor performed a riveting paso double routine to the theme song of Rocky. Couture got to show off his strength with the super-charged Spanish-style dance, but unfortunately for the judges, it wasn’t quite enough. “You can make minced meat of any bull,” judge Bruno Tonioli explained, “but I have to say, the timing was behind.” Julianne Hough agreed. “What happened to that strong, charming, leading man from week one?,” she asked. “The timing, you’re always this far behind.” Guest judge Kevin Hart came to Couture’s defense, however. “Randy I’ve seen you knock men out, so to see you come and pull off a dance move like that, it makes me jealous of you,” the comedian said. “You embrace it, you were into it. I take my hat off to you.” Couture earned two 7s and two 6s for 26 out of a possible 40 points.

Alfonso Ribeiro: Judges loved the actor's charisma during his energetic quickstep to "Hey Goldmember” from Austin Powers. “Dr. Evil is very pleased,” said Tonioli. “You got the swinging 60s vibe going like no one. You have such strong individual style you can sell anything.” Inaba was equally impressed, noting Ribeiro’s typical hip-hop style didn’t keep his elegance from coming out on the dance floor. “You were totally smooth,” she said. Hart joked you shouldn’t “put a black man in a velvet suit and tell him to dance,” but Ribeiro handled it like a pro. “You murdered that, brother,” said Hart. The actor earned 8s across the board for a total of 32 points.

Betsey Johnson: The fashion designer's contemporary performance to "Unchained Melody" from Ghost earned her a high score of 9 from Kevin Hart, who told her, “You just dropped it like it was hot.” Julianne Hough noticed how flexible Johnson was in all of her performances, but also told the designer she needs to work on flexing her toes. Inaba agreed, telling Johnson “You have beautiful extension, but you have to point the toes just a little bit more, girlfriend.” Johnson was thrilled with Hart’s score, however. “Thank you so much,” she told him after her dance was complete. Judges awarded Johnson a total of 29 points.

Lea Thompson: Dancing the cha-cha set to "Power of Love," from her most famous movie role in Back to the Future, the actress earned praise from the judges. “I just want to congratulate you on your execution of every number each week,” said Hough. “You’re so versatile and show a different side to you each week.” Tonioli agreed, “You can do different characters and sell it well.” Unfortunately however, Inaba told Thompson, “This was not your best dance at all.” It was a fun opportunity for the actress to relive her “favorite character,” Lorraine McFly. “She rules,” Thompson said after her performance was complete. “It was really fun to revisit her in a cha-cha skirt.” Judges awarded Thompson three 8s and a 7 for a total of 31 points.

Michael Waltrip: The racing legend's whimsical waltz to "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You," earned him special praise from judge Julianne Hough, who even called him over to the judge’s table to tell him, “That was your best dance ever.” The Robin Hood-inspired performance left Inaba “mesmerized” by his ability to pull the audience into his world. “I believe your hard work pays off, man,” added Hart. “You won me over.” This was Waltrip’s most praised performance, something which the contestant is extremely proud of. “My buddies called me over the other day to watch football and I told them, ‘No, I need to go to dance rehearsal.” With the judges awarding him 7s across the board, totaling 28 out of 40 points, it looks like practice really is helps make moves towards perfect.

Antonio Sabato Jr.: The actor’s foxtrot to "Ain't No Mountain High Enough,” inspired by the film, Guardians of the Galaxy, impressed the judges who realize dancing doesn’t come as naturally to him as some of the other contestants. “I want to encourage you, because I feel that dancing does not come easily to your body,” said Inaba. Host Erin Andrews also noted the difficulty of the routine, adding, “I wouldn’t know a foxtrot if it hit me in the face.” But Hart thought the actor executed the dance well: “You did good,” he said. The actor was relieved the routine was “finally done,” after working so hard at rehearsal all week. “I’m dancing with the greatest right here and I’m having a good time,” he said. Judges awarded Sabato Jr. three 7s and an 8 for a total of 29 points.

Sadie Robertson: The reality TV personality's ballroom routine to an “Up”-inspired dance earned her the highest remarks from the judges thus far. “So far tonight that was my favorite dance,” an impressed Inaba told her. “That was seamless,” Hart added. “I was totally and utterly charmed,” said Bruno. Hough praised Robertson’s professional partner, Mark Ballas, for doing “such a good job” with the storyline and choreography. “Mark taught me very well,” Robertson explained, adding, “All my friends are here, so that’s super exciting.” The “flawless” routine earned Robertson a total of 32 points.

Jonathan Bennett: The actor danced a Gatsby-style tango to Beyoncé and Andre 3000’s cover of "Back to Black,” which the judges acknowledged was quite a difficult pairing considering the musical track’s slower tempo. “That’s really hard to do that choreography to match that but I think you did a great job with the song itself,” said Hough. “You guys are awesome together. I love watching you.” Bennett explained the hardest part about the routine was keeping his elbows raised, because his elbows “have such a hard time going up into the air.” His imperfect arm positioning didn’t seem to matter for Hart, though, who loved that their song wasn’t a traditional tango-like song. “I was wrapped into your movement,” he said. Judges gave Bennett 8s across the board, for a total of 32 points.

Janel Parrish: The actress' jazz routine to “America” from West Side Story earned her the first perfect score of the season. “What just happened?,” Hough questioned. “I felt like I was watching a full-on Broadway show. That wasn’t just a dance, you just opened up so many doors to your career.” The judges couldn’t compliment the dance routine or Parrish’s execution of it enough. “That was insane,” said Inaba. “I bow down,” Hart added. Tonioli even called this performance the actress’ “star-making turn.” After a tough week of rehearsals with last-minute changes to the choreography, Parrish and her professional dancing partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, were not only shocked but thrilled with the judge’s praise. Parrish earned 10s from all four judges for a whopping score of 40.

Tommy Chong: The comedian's Scent of a Woman-themed tango was compared to “being in the presence of Yoda,” Inaba explained. “You’re kind of in awe because he knows so much. It was enlightening and so ethereal and so authentic. You are the real deal sir.” Hart added how “some people fold under pressure,” but “you stayed poised,” he told Chong. Hough noted how fierce of a woman Chong’s professional dancing partner Peta Murgatroyd is, “So anybody that can lead that woman is excellent,” she said. Chong earned three 8s and a 10 from guest judge Kevin Hart, for a total of 34 points.

Bethany Mota: The YouTube star received a standing ovation from the judges for her jazzy routine to "Singin' In the Rain," which paid homage to the great Gene Kelly. “Kelly is smiling down on you, kid,” said Tonioli. Mota was the second contestant to earn a perfect score tonight. “This isn’t happening,” she said after hearing the judge’s compliments. “This cannot be real life.” Hough praised her for keeping poised under pressure, especially since she knows “the wrath of Derek” first hand. “I just want to say well done,” she told the hardworking contestant. Mota earned a perfect 40 out of 40.
