‘Dancing With the Stars’ 2016: Marla Maples Gets the Boot, Ginger Zee and Paige VanZant Earn Night's Highest Scores
The celebrities performed a dance inspired by their favorite Disney movies.
-- Actress, television personality and Donald Trump’s ex Marla Maples got the boot on Monday’s "Dancing with the Stars", a show that saw the stars dancing to songs from popular Disney films.
Maples and "Fuller House" star Jodie Sweetin were both in jeopardy of going home, based on their judges’ scores combined with viewer votes from their performances on last week’s show, but Maples ended up with the lowest overall total.
Ironically, Maples received favorable reviews from the judges for her waltz to "Part of Your World," from Disney’s "The Little Mermaid," including Len Goodman, who said she delivered a "solid performance." In spite of the elimination, Marla said she enjoyed the experience.
"We have had so much fun. Don’t let those tears fool you," she said, referring to her reaction after earning a score of 21 for her jive last week. She clarified those were "happy tears."
Tonight’s top scorer: Two couples landed at the top of the leader board on Monday, including Good Morning America chief meteorologist Ginger Zee for her foxtrot to "Bonjour" from the Disney animated feature "Beauty and the Beast." Goodman declared it was the best dance this season, adding that it was a "tasty dish," with a tinge of "tango on a bed of foxtrot with a dressing of musicality and style." She earned a score of 36 out of 40 for the routine. UFC fighter Paige VanZant, who was the last dancer of the night, also earned a 36 for her quickstep to "You’ve Got a Friend in Me," from "Toy Story". Bruno Tonioli praised her for "going for infinity and beyond." Goodman added that like the Disney movie, the show "ended on a happy note."
Tonight’s standout moment: Nyle DiMarco’s samba to a song from the movie "Tarzan" left the panel marveling at the model’s ability to stay on the beat, in spite of being deaf. Tonioli dubbed DiMarco "lord of the jungle and king of the dance floor." Carrie Ann Inaba wondered if there was anything he couldn’t do. He earned 34 points.
