David Arquette 'OK' After Car Crash in Beverly Hills
'Scream' actor swerved into traffic to avoid hitting a car.
March 5, 2011 -- Actor David Arquette crashed his silver Cadillac with another car in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Friday afternoon near the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and Doheny Drive. He was driving to board a plane headed to Las Vegas, where he was to attend the grand opening of the Sugar Factory, a candy store at the Paris Hotel, according to TMZ.
Witnesses say Arquette crashed head-on into a Jeep Liberty after he swerved left to avoid hitting a car he was driving behind that stopped suddenly, reported KABC in Los Angeles.
"Some gentleman helped him out of the car and he was asking for some water. But after that, he was on the ground, laying down on the ground and the paramedics got here and were attending to him," witness Sinai Lahijani told KABC.
The 39-year-old actor was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and was not injured, joking on twitter after the accident, "Remember to wear your seatbelt-wish I was."
"I got into a car accident but I'm fine. Luckily I have dragon's blood running through my veins. Haha Thank you for all your concern," he wrote. "It was a miracle the woman I hit was uninjured- Thank God!"
David Arquette Started New Year in Rehab
In January David Arquette entered a rehab program for reported alcohol issues and depression following his separation from actress Courteney Cox. The two were married for 11 years and have a 6-year-old daughter, Coco.
The announcement followed weeks of public confessions from Arquette, including bombshell revelations on Howard Stern's radio show. "I definitely am having a nervous breakdown,"Arquette said, according to Stern's website. He later said it was more mid-life crisis than nervous breakdown.
But according to US Weekly, Arquette, the star of "Scream," revealed during the one-hour chat that he was seeing a psychiatrist weekly and that "everybody is worried and concerned about me."
The actor maintained after yesterday's crash that he is still sober, writing on Twitter today, "Refused all pain medication-may the record state- still sober!"
