'Doctor Strange': 7 Burning Questions
Everything you need to know about Marvel's powerful doctor!
-- "Doctor Strange" hits theaters everywhere today and Marvel's latest superhero to hit the big screen looks fun, but also inspires a lot of questions.
These movies can be a bit nuanced for moviegoers that aren't comic book fans, but we've got you covered. If you plan on seeing the movie, but haven't read the "Strange" books or seen previous Marvel Cinematic Universe films like "Iron Man" and "The Avengers," it's OK!
ABC News invited a colleague to check out "Doctor Strange" and ask anything that came to mind.
Here's what they had to say:
Minor Spoilers Ahead
1 - "What is this movie about?"
Stephen Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, is a very accomplished, respected doctor, but he knows it and is very arrogant. An accident renders him not equipped to practice medicine anymore and he goes looking for a different path. We know from clips and the trailer that he meets The Ancient One, who teaches him to think bigger and inspires him to become a superhero.
2 - Is this one of those, “If you liked 'Inception,' you’ll LOVE…” type deals?
Visually, maybe. But "Doctor Strange" is not as cerebral as "Inception." They look similar, but "Strange" is a light, fun ride with a solid cast that includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams and Tilda Swinton.
You won't be agonizing over a spinning top, or any one scene after you see this. You will, like with all Marvel movies, be wondering what's next and how everything ties together.
3 - Who is Doctor Strange fighting?
In the books, Doctor Strange is one of the most powerful and mystic heroes. What this means is unlike the Avengers, he's not just fighting to protect NYC or even Earth in some cases. He's a guardian of galaxies and sees things from a different perspective.
So, as seen in the trailer, it's safe to say, these bad guys are looking to do more than just attack a city or eliminate mankind like in "Age of Ultron."
These guys are probably looking to change the universe in some nefarious way.
4 - Why is Benedict Cumberbatch so handsome? (Yes, actual question.)
I don't know. He's British?
5 - In what time period is this supposed to be taking place?
Ohh, nice question. It's in our time and there will surely be a mention of other Marvel heroes like Thor and Iron Man. The Universe ties it all together, so they won't ignore previous movies or plots. You might even get a cameo or two!
6 - Does he continue to practice medicine after discovering his supernatural abilities? If so, does the rest of the world know who he is since his superhero outfit doesn’t conceal his identity like Iron Man?
Another excellent question. We won't give much away, but this will be answered in the film. Everyone knows who Iron Man is, he's Tony Stark. But the public doesn't know Spider-Man, because he wants to conceal his identity. This is a very key factor in any superhero film.
7 - What's next after "Doctor Strange"?
Well, we have "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" out in May. "Spider-Man: Homecoming" is out in July and "Thor: Ragnarok" in November before "Black Panther" in 2018. Then everything culminates in "Infinity War" in May 2018.
That's when the Avengers AND Strange will need to team up and then some to handle Thanos, Marvel's biggest baddie ever! This just got real.
