Donald Glover Opens Up About 'Star Wars' Role for First Time
Glover plays a young Lando Calrissian.
— -- Donald Glover is finally opening up about landing the coveted role of Lando Calrissian in an upcoming untitled "Star Wars" film.
"It’s really crazy," he told Ellen DeGeneres Wednesday. "I don’t know. I’m very honored. It’s a very big deal."
Glover, 33, admitted that he's had a long history with the character he's set to portray. In fact, it was the first toy he ever had as a child.
"That was the very first. I remember it," he added on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." "My dad gave it to me. I had a Darth Vader one too."
The "Atlanta" creator also shared how his parents reacted to the news.
"I told my dad immediately," Glover recalled. "He was like, ‘Aww.’ My mom was in the back; she was like, 'Don’t mess it up! Don’t mess this up!’ ‘Cause Billy Dee — like, that’s hers.”
The untitled film, which is expected to be released in 2018, will be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and will star Alden Ehrenreich as a young Han Solo.
The film will focus on the relationship between Calrissian and Solo, played by Billy Dee Williams and Harrison Ford, as young men.
