The actress and mother of two got her daughters' names -- Olive, 3, and Frankie, 1 -- on her right wrist.
Barrymore, 41, revealed the tattoo on Instagram after teasing fans with her caption, "Guess what I'm getting." Another photo in which she's shaking hands with her tattoo artist revealed, "Getting a great little lifetime note on my arm."
Olive and Frankie are Barrymore's daughters with husband, Will Kopelman.
The actress told More magazine in January her motivation as a mother.
"I didn't really have parents, you know? And therefore the kind of parent I will be is a good, present parent," she said then. "In a way, maybe that was a detriment to my youth, but it’ll be the biggest asset to my adulthood."
Barrymore was living on her own by age 14 and endured two stints in rehab for drug and alcohol abuse. The actress opened up about her childhood with parents, actor John Drew Barrymore, the son of film legend John Barrymore, and aspiring actress Jaid Barrymore, in her autobiography.
