Dwayne 'the Rock' Johnson opens up about new 'Jumanji' and concerns about raising his daughter in Hollywood
The actor said he is "so proud of the brave women who have stepped forward."
— -- Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson weighed in on the sexual misconduct scandal rocking the entertainment industry, saying he felt "so proud of the brave women who have stepped forward" during this "watershed moment."
The actor spoke out in an interview with ABC News' T.J. Holmes, where he discussed raising his daughters in Hollywood.
"I'm so, so proud of Simone," Johnson said of his 16-year-old daughter, who he says has already expressed an interest in pursing a career in Hollywood.
"Naturally, the concerns are there," he added, referring to the industry's recent, widespread, sexual harassment scandal. "We've had this conversation before with her because ... it's so prevalent.
"Ultimately, we circle back around to being so proud of the brave women who have stepped forward, and really created this watershed moment," Johnson told ABC News' T.J. Holmes. "Do I have concerns? I'm her dad, and I'm always going to have concerns with her, period."
Before the conversation turned to the headlines emerging out of Hollywood, Johnson sat down with Holmes to discuss his highly anticipated new film, "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle."
The new take on the beloved classic, which starred the late actor Robin Williams, features an all-star cast of comedians and actors including Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Nick Jonas and Karen Gillan.
"I've never had the privilege of having a movie come out during Christmas," Johnson said. "When you have a Christmas movie come out, I think that you have a responsibility, make sure it's good."
Johnson said that the new "Jumanji" film was especially close to his heart because it was filmed in Hawaii, a place where he spent years while growing up.
"We were forced to leave the island because we couldn't pay the rent," Johnson recalled. "I remember thinking, 'I will do everything I can to make sure we're never in this position ... again.'
"The irony is not lost to me that we're in Hawaii, but it also gives me a real ... strong foundation of gratitude," Johnson said.
Johnson, who was named People magazine's sexiest man alive in 2016, the same year he topped Forbes magazine's list of highest paid actors in Hollywood, joked that although he did not receive People magazine's title again in 2017, "that is a title of which I do not relinquish."
"I am today and will forever be the sexiest man alive," he quipped.
The actor told ABC News that maintaining a sense of normalcy in his day-to-day life while simultaneously being one of the hottest actors in the business can at times be a challenge.
"We use the term at home, me and my family, is really keep things 'simple core' ... movies on the weekend, find a good pizza place, have a good shot of tequila, get some good loving in," he added.
Johnson, who is the father of Simone, 16, from his first marriage, is also the father of Jasmine, 2, whom he welcomed with his longtime girlfriend, Lauren Hashian. Hashian is also pregnant with the couple's second daughter, who is due early next year.
"Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" hits theaters nationwide on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017.
