Eddie Redmayne Helps Pay Drama Students' London Rent
The "Danish Girl" actor noted that living in London is "impossibly expensive."
— -- Eddie Redmayne is up for a Golden Globe award this weekend, but the "The Danish Girl" actor is proving that he should be in the running for "most generous actor." The 34-year-old revealed that he occasionally helps with rent payments for aspiring actors in London.
Redmayne revealed his charitable ways during an interview with British GQ, where the actor discussed how "impossibly expensive" it is to live in England's capital, and acknowledged how lucky he was to be able to live in London without having to pay rent.
"The greatest privilege that I had was that my parents lived in London," Redmayne said. "So when I was out of university and out of work for a year, working in a pub, I didn't pay rent."
Redmayne, who won an Academy Award in 2015 for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in "The Theory of Everything," admitted that he occasionally foots the bill for a few aspiring actors, that have reached out to him, to discuss the struggles of managing the cost of London rent.
"I get letters from people trying to go to drama school and needing to pay their rent. And so that's something I occasionally do," Redmayne said. "It's impossibly expensive to live in London."
