Ellen DeGeneres Convinces HBO to Air Terminally Ill Comedian’s Comedy Show
DeGeneres announced the news during her talk show on Monday.
-- Ellen DeGeneres is helping to make a terminally ill comedian's dream come true.
Quincy Jones, a Los Angeles-based comedian who has terminal cancer, appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" on Monday, where the talk show host revealed that she had convinced HBO to air an hour-long stand-up special starring Jones himself.
The comedian had previously appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" to share his inspirational story, and talked about his dream to film a stand-up special before he died.
Jones was diagnosed with stage-four mesothelioma in July 2015 and was given one year to live. After his appearance on "Ellen" last week, DeGeneres made it her mission to make Jones' dream a reality, and the talk show host was able to bring good news to the comedian during his appearance on Monday.
"You mentioned last time that you really want to do a comedy special," said DeGeneres. "What you don't know is we called the head of HBO -- and your people didn't even tell you this -- but HBO is going to air your special."
"Are you serious," Jones replied excitedly. "Oh my God it's the best surprise. Thank you so much."
DeGeneres also revealed that Jones would be receiving a $15,000 donation from Shutterfly to help with the costs of making the stand-up special.
Jones' one-hour special will take place on April 4 at L.A.'s Teragram Ballroom. Tickets are available for purchase here.
