Ellen DeGeneres 'Can’t Imagine Not Being Married' to Portia de Rossi
The comedienne opens up about her life with 'best friend' Portia de Rossi.
-- After almost a decade of marriage, Ellen DeGeneres is grateful that she found her "best friend" in wife Portia de Rossi.
"Because not everybody finds that," she told People magazine for this week's cover story. "Portia and I constantly say to each other, ‘We are so lucky.’"
The famed talk show host and funny woman, 58, says that she often thinks about her blessed life, especially since "it took a while to find this."
"Sometimes it’s lying in bed at night before I go to sleep, and I just say thank you to whatever, whoever is out there. I’ve gotten to a place where I really am just settled. Really. I know that I’m not going anywhere. She’s not going anywhere," she said.
The "Arrested Development" star, 43, and the comedienne married in 2008 and live in Los Angeles with a slew of pets and that's just fine with them.
“Our priorities are each other too. If we had kids, then I’m sure they would be, but we are. And that’s important," she said. "You want to feel that you’re understood, and they know exactly who you are, and they know how to take care of you. That, to me, is family. I don’t think it has anything to do with blood relation."
In fact, DeGeneres "can’t imagine not being married."
DeGeneres, who came out as gay in the 1990s, recently sat down with ABC's "Nightline" to talk about her journey.
"When you’re gay and you’re successful in this business, your whole team says, ‘Don’t rock the boat. You know, you’re doing fine,'" she said about coming out while headlining a successful sitcom years ago. "And I just thought, you know, what’s equally as important as my career is living my life without shame."
As for having kids one day, she told "Nightline" that "we’ve really given it serious consideration. But, you know, we’ve been together 11 years now. And it’s a good, wonderful relationship. And we both have careers. And we’re both busy."
