'ER' Actor Mekhi Phifer Files for Bankruptcy
"ER" actor is more than $1.2 million in debt.
May 8, 2014 -- Actor Mekhi Phifer, best known for his role as Dr. Greg Pratt on NBC's "ER," has filed for bankruptcy.
Documents obtained by ABC News show that the 39-year-old actor accrued about $1.2 million in debt, the majority of it back taxes. The actor also owes about $50,000 in legal and accounting fees, according to the documents filed April 22 in Los Angeles.
Mekhi Phifer Marries Longtime Girlfriend
Phifer listed more than $67,000 in assets, including three firearms, a leather bed, a 2003 Range Rover and a 12-year-old Segway. He also noted in the Chapter 7 filing that his current monthly income of $7,545 with wife Reshelet Barnes, a creative director with NBC Universal, is less than their monthly expenses of $11,574.
Besides his six-year run on "ER," Phifer is known for his role opposite Eminem in "8 Mile."
Recently, he had a recurring role in the Showtime series "House of Lies" and played Max in the film "Divergent." He's expected to reprise his role for the 2015 sequel, "Insurgent."
