Eva Mendes Reveals Meaning Behind Daughter Esmeralda Amada's Name
The actress and Ryan Gosling welcomed Esmeralda Amada in September.
-- Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling are just two months into raising daughter Esmeralda Amada, but the actress already says, "these are some of the wildest nights I’ve ever had."
Though Mendes says "Esmeralda has two amazing grandmothers and incredible aunties who come over and really help me," the actress is currently raising the baby with a nanny ... "for now."
This is the first time Mendes has publicly commented on the daughter she welcomed on Sept. 12. The "Hitch" actress also revealed why she and Gosling chose their girl's very special name.
“Ryan and I both love the Esmeralda character from the Victor Hugo novel, 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame,' and we just think it’s a beautiful name,” the actress, 40, told Violet Grey‘s digital magazine, The Violet Files. "Amada was my grandmother’s name. It means ‘beloved’ in Spanish.”
Mendes might be having some sleepless nights raising a baby, but she said it's her daughter who she sympathizes with.
"Everything is a struggle for her. For instance, I haven’t thrown up since the 90s and she’s thrown up twice since we started this interview,” she said. “Motherhood is cake compared to what it’s like to be a baby.”
Finally, Mendes commented on the fact that she worries for her baby's privacy, being the daughter of two high-profile actors.
"Whether we like it or not, privacy is going to be very difficult for Esmeralda. I think it’s unfair, but that’s our reality," she said.
