What to Expect From the Official Prince Tribute Concert
Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan and Christina Aguilera are among the performers.
-- The official Prince tribute concert is finally happening this Thursday, officially dubbed as "Prince Day," in the late music icon's home state of Minnesota.
The live extravaganza at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul will feature an impressive lineup of performers, including Stevie Wonder, Anita Baker, Doug E. Fresh, Chaka Khan, Tori Kelly, Christina Aguilera, Luke James, Bilal, Mint Condition, and Purple Rain co-stars Morris Day and the Time, honoring the musical legacy of the Purple One. Members of Prince's bands New Power Generation and 3rd Eye Girl also will appear.
A slew of other performers are also confirmed to attend the star-studded event, including former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, Prince's ex-wife Mayte Garcia, Prince's former backup singer-dancers The Twinz, Portuguese Fado singer Ana Moura, saxophonist Michael Phillips, Prince's former bandmate and childhood best friend André Cymone, and former touring DJ for Prince and the New Power Generation, DJ Dudley.
Tickets for the "Prince: The Official Tribute" concert are still available to purchase. Fans can make their way to the Xcel Energy Center at 4 p.m. CT to enjoy an outdoor pre-show party and view a permanent memorial tribute created in honor of the musical legend before the start of the concert. Of course, wearing purple is also encouraged.
In other news, Prince fans can also dance several nights away this week during a three-night dance party called "Dance On 'Til Dawn," which began tonight and runs through Friday. The event, hosted by Prince's family, takes place in his hometown of Minneapolis at the Muse Event Center. Tickets are on sale now.
