Freida Pinto on Working With Christian Bale: 'He's Very Encouraging'

— -- The world first fell in love with Freida Pinto through her star turn in "Slumdog Millionaire." Now, she’s appearing in a very different kind of film.

Pinto, 31, plays a model in "Knight of Cups." The film tells the story of a screenwriter, played by Christian Bale, who has extramarital affairs, and Pinto chatted with Jesse Palmer of “Good Moring America” about her involvement in the project.

Pinto said making the film was a challenge and a creative wonder because it lacked a traditional script. Director Terrence Malick encouraged Pinto to come up with her own dialogue as the camera rolled, Pinto said.

"The one or two times it was scripted was [when] we had these teleprompters and Terry was telling us what to say, but he also insisted on us not saying it if you don't want to say it," Pinto said.

Asked what it was like to work with Bale in such an environment, Pinto said, "He was very encouraging: 'Just don't worry about it. Just go with it. Just say whatever you have to and we'll figure a way out.'"

Pinto has another big project coming up. "The Jungle Book: Origins" will also feature "Knight of Cups" co-stars Bale and Cate Blanchett.

"This is a story that I grew up with in India, and I remember every Sunday watching this with my family," she said. "And I just think that it's a story that will be told forever so if I can be part of that history-making process, it just makes me so excited."
