'Game of Thrones': 5 burning questions heading into season 8
So many questions heading into the final season.
-- This goes without saying, but major spoilers ahead for those who haven't seen the season 7 finale of "Game of Thrones."
OK, let's begin!
"Thrones" season 7 ended Sunday night with an ice-fire-breathing dragon, two fan favorites finally getting together and so much more. But this finale also raised many questions. Here are our top five.
1. Dany and Jon (Aegon)
OK, so we learned that Jon Snow is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne, but he just doesn't know it yet. He is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, who were secretly married.
But Jon, whose real name is Aegon Targaryen, also just slept with his aunt Daenerys, whom he deemed his queen. Dany has taken very well to power as of late, so what will happen when she finds out her new lover is the rightful king? Will she kindly back down and get married, or is betrayal on the horizon?
2. Jon Snow is a freaking Targaryen! So now what?
We saw Jon play nice with one of Dany's dragons, and now we know why, other than that amazing head of hair. Viserion is with the Night King now, but Rhaegal is named after Jon's real father and is still very much alive. Can we expect to see Jon riding a dragon into battle soon? Can you imagine that? It's very likely.
What else? Can he survive fire like Dany? Does this explain why the Lord of Light brought him back? So many questions.
3. Fire and ice?
We've now seen Viserion breathe his ice fire (is that a thing?), so what happens when he faces off against his siblings? Also, is he still breathing fire, just blue fire? The latter looks like the best explanation, because the ice wall melted from his breath.
It's also worth noting that he isn't an ice dragon now but just a dragon raised from the dead by the Night King, who has joined his undead army. Understand all that? Good.
So we may see not a fire and ice battle but two dragons breathing fire of different colors at each other. But we still want to see that, for sure.
Also, did Tormund make it out alive? He was on the Wall when Viserion demolished a section of it. If Tormund perished, hearts are breaking everywhere.
4. Tyrion
Why was Tyrion looking somewhat down when he saw Jon enter Dany's cabin? Is he also in love with her, like basically every other guy in Westeros?
Or could it be something else? A theory has popped up that maybe he made a deal with Cersei, which is why she came out and faked her support to fight the army of the dead. Would he really betray his queen to get back into the Lannister family's good graces? Probably not, but that would explain his sullen nature, seeing two people mostly of pure heart unite, to then be betrayed by himself.
Remember, he thinks he's about to be an uncle again, and maybe that pulled at his heartstrings.
5. Cersei
Now that we know she was faking her support, what's next for her? She has seemingly lost Jaime, who bailed on her because he swore his support for the North and Daenerys in the battle against the undead.
Will she completely lose it now and just go on a (bigger) killing spree? Will she come to her senses and join the fight? Will she go after Jaime? Also, is she really pregnant? She seemed to be genuine when Tyrion noticed her demeanor but then showed her true colors later on.
So many questions, and only six episodes left next season!
"Game of Thrones" returns sometime next year on HBO.
