'Mean Girls' cast marks film's holiday by fundraising for Las Vegas shooting victims

Oct. 3 has been declared a holiday because of a line from the film.

Since the movie's debut in 2004, Oct. 3 has been declared "Mean Girls Day," and this year, the cast is marking the unofficial holiday by giving back.

"We know today is a special day. This year though, we're doing things a little differently," Chabert said. "In honor of Mean Girls Day, we're asking each of you to help."

At least 59 people were killed Sunday night after suspected shooter Stephen Paddock fired into a crowd from his hotel window. More than 500 were injured.

To support those affected by the tragedy, the actors have asked fans to donate $3 toward a $300,000 goal. Bennett donated $1,003, and as of Tuesday afternoon time, the fundraiser had reached nearly $10,000.

"Do something grool today. Let's hit this goal together," read a description on the site, referencing a line from the film. "We might not make fetch happen, but we can make this happen."
