'GMA 40 for 40': Behind the Scenes With 'Aladdin' On Broadway
Gio Benitez chats with the cast of "Aladdin" backstage.
-- The cast of "Aladdin" on Broadway gave a behind-the-scenes tour this evening a few hours before going on stage for a live performance of the play inspired by the 1992 Disney film.
"[I was a] huge fan," Adam Jacobs (Aladdin) said in an interview with ABC News correspondent Gio Benitez during "GMA's" "40 for 40" live stream event, commemorating the show's 40th anniversary. "I watched it incessantly. I was...in the playground. I remember jumping off of picnic tables and pretending to run away from guards.
"I was living it out," he added. "I was Aladdin, for sure."
After getting a glimpse of props and magnificent sets from the show, Jacobs, Courtney Reed (Jasmine) and James Monroe Iglehart (Genie), opened up about what it's like performing at the New Amsterdam Theatre in the heart of Times Square.
"This is a classic theater," Iglehart said. "This is where 'The Lion King' started, 'Mary Poppins' was here. We are in the diamond and we get to perform here every night. It's very cool."
