Golden Globes 2017: Predicting the Nominees

Which TV shows and films will likely get nominations.

— -- At last, there's something to talk about besides politics.

The awards season kicks off Monday with the Golden Globe nominations. In anticipation, Joey Moser, a contributor to the website Awards Daily, helps ABC News predict who will be among the nominees.

Here are the TV shows and films that seem poised for a nod on Monday:

Film

'La La Land'

'Fences'

'Silence'

'Moonlight'

"Moonlight" is the darling of indie films this year, and Moser believes it will get some recognition from the HFPA. "That could help the trajectory of that film," he said. "If it makes a big showing, it could lead to Oscars down the line."

Other films that could score nominations include the drama "Manchester by the Sea," starring Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams, and comedies "Deadpool" and "Lobster," which Moser calls "one of the most original things" he's seen in a while.

Television

'The Crown'

'Westworld'

'Divorce'

'This Is Us'

Among network shows, NBC's "This Is Us," has the best chance of scoring a nomination in the drama series category. "People cannot stop talking about it," Moser said. Tougher still, will be getting a nomination in the acting categories, but if anyone can pull it off, it will by Chrissy Metz in the supporting category, Moser predicted.

'Fleabag'

Moser's wildcard pick is the Amazon series "Fleabag," based on star Phoebe Waller-Bridge's one-woman play. The six-episode series about a woman trying to navigate her life in London is just the kind of small show with a dark horse star that the HFPA loves, Moser said. Think back to previous Golden Globe wins by Gina Rodriguez in "Jane the Virgin" and Rachel Bloom for "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend."
