One Week to Hit It Big: Lexi St.George Chosen as 'Good Morning America' Pop Star Winner
Is it possible to launch an everyday teenage girl to superstardom in one week?
June 28, 2011 -- Is it possible in today's viral universe to find an everyday teenage girl and launch her to superstardom in just one week?
Fourteen-year-old Lexi St.George is one step closer to finding out.
The teen from Palmdale, Calif., had just enough of what hit-maker Patrice Wilson called "that star factor" to make St. George his selection to embark on "Good Morning America's" "Pop Star" challenge.
St. George faced competition from dozens of teenage girls who crowded Los Angeles area malls, the Americana and the Grove, to participate in flash auditions held by "GMA," American Broadcast Companies and the California-based Ark Music Factory.

"When she got on camera, she sparkled up," Wilson, Ark Music's founder, said of what made St.George stand apart as his selection.

After facing what he initially thought would be the impossible task of narrowing the pool of hopefuls down to just one, Wilson, the man behind 14-year-old viral star Rebecca Black, said he quickly saw that St.George was the one.
"She was like 'this is my audition, I'm going to dance, I'm going to move," Wilson said. "She showed it to me."
Stage 2: Recording a Hit
After knocking on St.George's door with the winning news, Wilson whisked the shocked star-in-making and her mom, Louise, off to The Village Studios.
It was there, the famous recording studio where hits from superstars like Lady Gaga, Christina Aguilera and Sheryl Crow have been born, that St.George, who has been singing and writing songs since she was 3 years old, first heard the song that could make her a hit.

"It's great," St.George told "GMA" after hearing the lyrics for the first time. "I love the song."
By day two in the Village Studios' recording booth, however, reality began to sink in for the 14-year-old, a realization of the hard road she has in front of her as she tries to reach stardom in just one week.
"It's annoying," St.George said of the repetition in singing lyrics over and over.
"Can't we just use the one I got?"
The stress mounted as Wilson made his protégé reach for perfection with every word, every syllable.
"What happens if I can't get it," St.George worried before finally nailing the song and making it her own.
"I think she's gonna rock the world," said her mom.
With that encouragement, and the recording stage behind her, St.George moves on to the next step of the "Pop Star" competition, producing an original music video with viral potential to become the next big hit.
