Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez Are Divorcing

The couple will share a "focus of what is best for our son" moving forward.

— -- Halle Berry and husband Olivier Martinez have filed for divorce.

They had been married for two years.

Berry filed with L.A. Superior Court on Monday afternoon, and Martinez filed separately on Tuesday.

An L.A. Superior Court PIO told ABC station KABC-TV that Martinez cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split and asked for joint and physical custody of their 2-year-old son, Maceo. Berry also cited irreconcilable differences in her petition, and is asking for legal and physical custody of their son to beawarded to her, or to be awarded jointly, "as in the best interest of the child," according to the PIO.

Earlier in the day, the actors, both 49, released a joint statement, obtained by ABC News, announcing the end of their marriage.

"It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce," they said. "We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus of what is best for our son. We wish each other nothing but happiness in life and we hope that you respect our and, most importantly, our children's privacy as we go through this difficult period."

Berry and Martinez got engaged in March 2012, then revealed they were expecting in 2013. The Oscar-winning actress and Martinez were wed in France's Burgundy region in July 2013.

In October of that year, Martinez and Berry welcomed their only child together, Maceo.

Berry has always been open about her relationship with Martinez, saying how proud she was of the actor when he starred in the show "Revenge" last year.

After rumors that the two might have been having problems, Berry told Extra TV, "I think he's delicious."
