Heidi Montag to Divorce Spencer Pratt
People magazine reports the former "Hills" co-stars will end their marriage.
July 30, 2010— -- Reality television star Heidi Montag has filed for divorce from her husband Spencer Pratt, People Magazine reports.
The couple separated two months ago, and have now officially filed for divorce in Santa Monica, Calif., Superior Court, according to the magazine.
Many were skeptical that the June separation was simply a ploy to get media attention, as the pair are known for pulling publicity stunts. But the former co-stars of the hit MTV show "The Hills" appear to be calling it quits for good.
"Heidi has amended her petition for separation and today has filed a petition for dissolution of marriage from Spencer Pratt," Montag's lawyer Jodeane Farrell told People. "The couple has agreed they would like their divorce to be finalized in a timely manner in an out of court settlement. Both parties are amicable with each other and over the possibility of finalizing their divorce."
Pratt's never-ending desire for fame may have derailed their union. ""We love each other but I'm a fame whore and I'll never grow out of it. [Heidi] knows that and doesn't want that," Pratt, 26, told People.
The pair began dating in 2006 while appearing on "The Hills" together and were married last spring in Pasadena, Calif.
Montag, 23, is known not only for her role on "The Hills" but also for her frequent plastic surgeries. She underwent 10 procedures in one day last year, and is said to be addicted to plastic surgery. Montag denies having any such addiction.
Montag, 23, returned from a brief time out of the spotlight early this year with a "tweaked" face and body, courtesy of 10 plastic surgeries in 10 hours.
She re-emerged after the November operations amid controversy about what she had done. Critics accused her of being addicted to the knife.
Beauty on the Inside ... and Out
Despite criticism from fans who said she looked like a "Barbie," Montag said she likes her new look.
"I hope I get my own Barbie one day," Montag Montag told "Good Morning America" in January. But she said she doesn't feel like a Barbie.
"I think I just look like a different, improved version of myself," she told "GMA."
Montag said she wanted her admirers to know that beauty is on the inside but seemed to realize how her surgeries could undercut that message.
She also recently appeared in her first feature film, Adam Sandler's "Just Go With It". Montag continues to pursue a music career and is reportedly recording her second album.
