'Housewives' Stars Joe and Teresa Giudice: Charges Against Them by the Numbers

Nov. 27, 2013— -- The troubles just keeping adding up for "Real Housewives of New Jersey" stars Joe and Teresa Giudice.

The latest: Joe Giudice was pulled over while driving in Montville, N.J., Tuesday and given two summonses for failing to have an inspection sticker on his car and for an expired insurance card, the Montville Police told Montville Patch.

'Real Housewives' Joe Giudice Cited for Careless Driving in School Zone

Earlier this month, Giudice was cited for careless driving in a school zone after he swerved into a cop driving in oncoming lanes of traffic. Officials said the police officer believed Giudice was texting at the time.

But Giudice's latest troubles are minor compared to those the couple is already facing, including 41 federal charges.

Two New Counts Make It 41

The Giudices were back in court Nov. 20, pleading not guilty to two additional federal fraud charges. The two new charges bring their total indictments up to 41 counts. Teresa, 41, and Joe, 43, were indicted this past summer on charges that they conspired to fraudulently obtain millions of dollars in loans. At the same time, prosecutors have accused them of trying to hide assets while in bankruptcy. The original 39-count indictment, which still stands, includes charges of mail and wire fraud, bank fraud and bankruptcy fraud.

Teresa's attorney, Henry Klingeman, immediately proclaimed his client is not guilty after the latest charges came in last week. "Teresa intends to plead 'not guilty' to the allegations in the new indictment, Klingeman said.

Joe's lawyer, Miles Feinstein, reiterated that his client is not guilty and stressed that the added charges are simply "piling on" by the feds.

Amount Joe Made While Not Filing Taxes

In the original indictment, the government alleges that Joe Giudice failed to file taxes between 2004 and 2008. The government claims Giudice earned nearly $1 million during that four-year period.

Number of Years The Couple Face in Jail

The two new charges each carry maximum penalties of 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine. All told, the couple face dozens of years behind bars if convicted on all the charges.

Joe's Own Troubles

In addition to the federal charges, Joe is facing a criminal trial in New Jersey state court on charges he obtained a driver's license by impersonating his brother. At the time, Giudice's own license was suspended because of a driving-under-the-influence episode.

ABC News reported earlier this month that Joe has had his license suspended 47 times since he first became a New Jersey driver in 1987.

While acknowledging that she doesn't understand some of the charges she and her husband are facing, Teresa Giudice told "Access Hollywood" last month, "I love my husband more than anything and I will stand by him to the end."

The Bankruptcy

The couple filed for bankruptcy in 2009, claiming more than $10 million in debts. At the time, Teresa Giudice told "The View" that the couple were forced into bankruptcy because tenants at her husband's four apartment buildings in East Orange, N.J., were having trouble paying rent during the economic downturn. She added that he was caught up in a lawsuit regarding properties.

"It's all in the buildings," she said of the debt.

But according to the original federal indictment, authorities say they tried to conceal assets, including three vehicles, a boat, properties that housed a pizzeria, a $280,000 advance for Teresa Guidice's best-selling cookbook "Skinny Italian" and money she received for "Housewives."

The couple dropped their bankruptcy petition in 2011.

Teresa told E! that she's trying to stay strong for them. "I'm being the mom kind of keeping it all together," she said. "I'm the rock. I can't fall apart. If I fall apart, the rest of the family is going to fall apart."
