A Look Inside Prince George's First Year
The heir to the British throne is on the cover of Vanity Fair.
-- Prince George is arguably the most famous baby in the world, and now, just weeks before his first birthday, the young royal is gracing the cover of Vanity Fair magazine alongside his parents, Prince William and Duchess Kate.
Though he is the heir to the British throne, Prince George Alexander Louis, according to the accompanying Vanity Fair article, is pretty close to your average toddler.
George, who is William and Kate’s first child, “cried loudly and frequently,” and was “permanently hungry” during the first few months of his life, royal sources told the magazine.

Responding to George’s every need during those months was not a royal army of help but Kate and William themselves.
“You would expect back at the palace, servants, maternity nurses, everyone on hand. There wasn’t even an air conditioning unit,” Katie Nicholl, the author of the Vanity Fair article and the author of a book about George’s mom, “Kate: The Future Queen,” told ABC News.
Nicholl reports William and Kate, “initially didn’t want to hire a nanny,” for George, but eventually gave in and hired Spanish-born Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo.
“Not only is Maria a whiz with the Magimix and the pureeing and nappy changing. She can drive high-speed cars. She’s trained in self-defense and she knows exactly where the paparazzi are hiding,” Nicholl told ABC News.
Borrallo traveled with the royal family to Australia and New Zealand earlier this year where Prince George’s few appearances, including a public playdate and meeting a bilby named after him, stole the attention away from his parents.
Back home in England, George goes on playdates at the homes of his parents’ friends who also have kids, according to Nicholl.
“The one thing that William always wanted to be was ordinary and it’s the one thing they both want for George,” Nicholl said.
When George turns one on July 22, do not expect to see news of a blowout birthday bash. Instead, according to Nicholl, the prince is expected to have a small birthday tea gathering with his parents and grandparents.
As for the pregnancy rumors surrounding Duchess Kate as the world awaits a second royal baby, Nicholl tells ABC News that, according to her royal sources, William and Kate want to move into their new country home and get settled first before trying for a new baby.
