Jason Sudeikis and Alison Brie On Leaving Hit Shows
From “Saturday Night Live” and “Mad Men” to “Community” and “Horrible Bosses."
-- From “Mad Men” and “Community” to “Saturday Night Live,” Alison Brie and Jason Sudeikis have hit the jackpot with their TV roles. But even the best of roles must eventually come to an end. And though it was time to move on, it wasn’t necessarily easy for either of them.
“It was a big year of farewells for me," Brie told ABC News. "I think I had a public tear on set with everybody saying goodbye."
And for Sudeikis, it was much the same, speaking on his two-time departure from SNL.
"It is a weird thing. It is weird when it goes on without you. But also for me, I kind of got to say goodbye twice, because I was gonna to leave one year. And I wasn’t sure if I was gonna come back. And then I got to leave again. So I kind of got to go to my own funeral one time," Sudeikis told Peter Travers. "But I’m saying goodbye to my good friends Kristen Wiig and Andy Samberg the first time. And the next time it was Fred (Armisen) and Bill (Hader).
"But I just have a romantic notion about that show. The idea that it goes on forever is sort of in the DNA of it, like Chevy Chase, who was the biggest star at the time, left after his first season and then we replaced him with some new kid named Bill Murray that, who knew how that was going to work out and it seemed to go just fine," Sudeikis joked.
With those shows now behind them, could it be that Sudeikis and Brie were meant to be together ... on film? For the first time, they've teamed up on screen in the new romantic comedy "Sleeping with Other People.” Both on screen and off, they seem like old friends just hanging out having a good time.
Brie said her old boss, Dan Harmon, who is the writer and producer of “Community” actually once tried to set them up as a couple.
"Years before this project came out, he had actually texted me and wanted to set me up with Jason. And I said yeah."
But it turns out Harmon was a tad too late because Sudekis had just met someone who turned out to be who he calls the love of his life, Olivia Wilde.
"And two months later I met the love of my life," Brie said, speaking of fiancé Dave Franco. "And five years later we met each other and made this movie".The big question in their new film is can two people with great chemistry truly just be friends.
“The trick is to be madly in love with someone else," said Brie. “But both people have to be in love with someone else.”
"Sleeping with Other People" is in theaters now.
