The 'Jersey Shore' Side Show: Money-Making Schemes Galore

Snooki, The Situation & the gang are pursuing a batch of bizarre side projects.

Aug. 20, 2010 — -- It's official: GTL -- gym-tan-laundry -- is a legitimate life game plan.

They may look like a bunch of overly tanned, overly styled, over-the-top party animals and drama queens, but between downing shots and pumping fists, the boys and girls of "Jersey Shore" managed to monetize their skills and assets, like their abs (Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino), their hair (Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi), and their stripper sense of style (Jenni "JWOWW" Farley).

In case you've been stuck for the last year in, say, the Maldives, "Jersey Shore" is MTV's hit reality show about a bunch of fun-loving lads and ladies who first lived it up in New Jersey's Seaside Heights and then took Miami by storm. If you were indeed in the Maldives, you might want to book the next plane back there after reading that sentence, but about five million people tune into "Jersey Shore" every Thursday, and its stars have been getting rich quickly, reportedly banking $30,000 each per episode.

Not all of the show's cast can find the time to pursue outside projects, beyond milking club promoters for thousands of dollars in apperance fees (getting all of them to pimp out one place can cost tens of thousands of dollars).

Between vacillating about whether or not to stay on "Jersey Shore" and dishing dirt about her former co-stars, Angelina Pivarnick seems tapped out. Vinny Guadagnino and Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola don't appear to have branched out far beyond the show either.

Check out the side projects of those who have:

Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino

Here's the real situation: Sorrentino boasts a set of six-pack abs so enviable that it's a buiness plan in and of itself. Combine that with his appealing-at-times arrogance and voila: you've got a fitness personality who could give Tony Little a run for his money. Earlier this month, Sorrentino announced he's releasing an ab workout DVD set to hit stores in time for the holiday binge eating season and the inevitable New Year's resolutions that follow.

"He's got what people consider a great body, hence his name 'The Situation,' so we decided what better way for people to get their own situation," Sorrentino's older brother, Marc, told RadarOnline.

Aside from abs and eloquence, Sorrentino and his brother pride themselves on their fashion IQ. On Wednesday, Marc announced that a Situation clothing line is in the works. The piece de resistance of the collection:

"People are going to be really excited about our retro suede jumpsuits," he told RadarOnline. "We're bringing them back because they were worn by the most stylish Italians."

The most stylish Italians could not be reached for comment.

Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi

It's only a matter of time before the pint-sized "Jersey Shore" castmate gets her own show. Snooki may be on the wrong side of the law after getting arrested for public intoxication and being annoying (apparently that's a crime in New Jersey), but with her propensity for falling down and questionable quips (after toppling over 'The Situation's' marinating chicken: "My first thought was, I don't wanna clean this up. My second thought was, I just f****d up dinner. My third thought was, What the f**k am I gonna eat?"), she's the kind of thing reality TV producers dream about at night.

For now, though, Snooki's struggling to turn her nickname into a brand name. According to The Smoking Gun, her attempt to register the "Snooki" trademark for "printed matter, namely books" was refused because the name was too close to the 2004 children's book, "Aventures of Snooky," about a cat who falls overboard on a fishing trip. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office did permit her to use "Snooki" at public appearances and to apply incarnations of it to various products, including "I Snook the Night" on clothing and "Snookit" on self-tanning spray.

Still, Snooki shot back at the cat. "Wawaaa! Nobody knew who Snooky the Cat was until I applied for a trademark!," she wrote on her Twitter page Tuesday. "I'm the real Snooki b***hes!"

Stay classy, Snooks.

Jenni "JWOWW" Farley

Part stripper, part porn star, the JWOWW look is finely tuned balance of low cut and lace, cleveage and cutouts. Called Filthy Couture, her clothing line looks exactly the way its name sounds. But since it incorporates a fancy French term in its title, its duds comes at price: a white, plunging halter-top dress called "Pure Sin" retails on JWOWW's website for $329.00.

JWOWW has bigger ambitions than mere mass market, though. At the Las Vegas launch of Filthy Couture in July, she told Stylelist.com that the line's "extreme handmade pieces," featuring such embellishments as Swarovski crystals, will go for more than $1,000 a pop.

Next up for JWOWW: a skin care line she's developing with cosmetic surgeon Dr. Stephen T. Greenberg. Presumably, she'll ditch the "Filthy" branding for that venture. Also in the works: a book with castmate Ronnie Ortiz-Magrow, aptly titled, "Never Fall in Love at the Jersey Shore."

Paul "DJ Pauly D" DelVecchio

Pauly D made money spinning tracks at clubs long before "Jersey Shore." Now, he's reeling in the dough so fast, his rock-hard hair might actually budge in the breeze made by all the dollars he's bringing in. Back in his hometown of Providence, Rhode Island, Pauly D reportedly made $1,000 a night as a DJ. According to TMZ, as of January, his asking price had jumped to between $10,000 and $25,000 a gig.

But one of his most lucrative offers had nothing to do with spinning tracks.

"Someone in California offered us $50,000 to have Pauly D walk them down the aisle at their wedding, to give them away," Michael Schweiger of CEG Talent, which represents all the cast members except Snooki, told RadarOnline in February. "We rejected the offer, because Pauly is a serious DJ ... Pauly D is not necessarily doing the personal appearances because he feels he has a lot to learn as a DJ. He does not want to be doing stuff that is unrelated to DJ-ing."

Except, of course, for that gym-tan-laundry regimen. Some routines just can't stop, not even for the most ambitious "Jersey Shore"-ers.
