What Kind of Mom Will Jessica Simpson Be?
Jessica Simpson welcomed her first child on Tuesday.
May 2, 2012 -- Now that Jessica Simpson finally has her baby, what kind of mom will she be?
The singer and reality TV personality wasn't shy about revealing the details of her pregnancy leading up to Tuesday's birth of her first child, daughter Maxwell Drew Johnson. (Remember when she told Jay Leno she nicknamed herself "swamp a**" and likened her nether regions to a bayou?) Expect more tweeting and talking now that she's a mom.
"I think she's so excited to finally be a mom, it's something she's been looking forward to for a really long time, and she wants to share it with all her fans," said People magazine reporter Lesley Messer. "She was very vocal about her cravings during her pregnancy, she was tweeting photos of the cereal she was eating, so I don't think it would be surprising if she shared a funny story or two about being a new mom."
She also may be the type to lavish luxuries on her daughter. Simpson reportedly gave birth to Maxwell in a nearly $4,000 a day birthing suite at Los Angeles' Cedars Sinai Medical Center that featured manicure/pedicure stations and meals served on linen tablecloths. Simpson's rep confirmed the star was at Cedars Sinai, but would not comment on the details of the birthing suite.

Simpson embraced the celebrity trend of giving your kid an unconventional name (see: Beyonce's Blue Ivy, Alicia Silverstone's Bear Blu). The names Maxwell and Drew reportedly have family significance to Simpson and her fiance, Eric Johnson. Even though little Maxwell may have a hard time finding a license plate keychain with her name on it, Carolyn Castiglia, comedian and blogger for the parenting website Babble, thinks she'll be just fine.
"At least weird names are hard to make fun of," she said. "Take Apple and Moses Paltrow. What are the kids at school gonna say? 'You're a piece of fruit!' 'You're a historical figure who led his people out of bondage!'"
Simpson, 31, and Johnson, 32, announced the arrival of their daughter on Simpson's website Tuesday, saying the baby weighed in at 9 lbs. 13 ounces.
"We are so grateful for all the love, support and prayers we have received," she said in a statement. "This has been the greatest experience of our lives!!"
Simpson was outspoken about her pregnancy in the weeks leading up to her delivery. Close to her due date, she tweeted about a dream she had. "I just woke up from a dream that I wore a leopard caftan in the hospital," she wrote. "Fabulous!! Now I need to find one!"
She dispelled multiple rumors that she had already given birth: "To everyone who keeps congratulating me on the birth of my baby girl...I'm still pregnant!!" Simpson tweeted at the end of April. "Don't believe what you read ladies and gents."
In March, she gushed to Ryan Seacrest about her sex life, saying "I'm kind of unstoppable at the moment! Like the big 'O' is like the biggest 'O' ever." She frequently shared the details of her uncomfortable pregnancy, telling Jimmy Kimmel that because her belly was weighing so heavily on her "hoo-ha," she predicted her water break would be "like a fire hydrant."
Up next for Simpson: A wedding. She and Johnson planned to marry before having their baby but decided to put off the wedding until after they had a family. "I want him to be my husband so bad," Simpson said on "The Tonight Show" in March. "I do still want to wear the pretty gown, so I have to wait."
