Jon Bernthal Breaks His Silence On Being Cast as the Punisher
Bernthal speaks out on portraying Marvel's popular vigilante.
-- When it was announced that Netflix was making “Daredevil” into a series, the question on everybody’s mind was, “Who’s going to play the Punisher?”
Jon Bernthal is still trying to wrap his head around the idea that it’s him.
"Oh man, it's just a huge honor to play the part and that's all I can say about that," Bernthal told ABC News. "I'm very thrilled and we haven't started yet, but I'm very much looking forward to it."
Bernthal, 38, who is perhaps best known for his role as Shane Walsh in the AMC drama "The Walking Dead" has recently appeared in “The Wolf of Wall Street,” and “Mob City,” among other projects. He’s also raising three small children with his wife of nearly five years, Erin Angle.
"I'm living my dream everyday," he continued. "My dream is to be with my kids and my dogs and that's what I'm going to do."
Dogs have become a huge priority for Bernthal, The Majority Project, a campaign dedicated to eliminating the discrimination against pit bulls and their owners.
"I'm a pit bull owner myself. I've seen the prejudice these dogs have been facing for years," he said. "I care a lot about the breed and I believe it's very misunderstood. I think that every 10 or 15 years there a diff dog that's thrown into the limelight that's perceived of being aggressive and I think the notion of that is really ridiculous."
"I'll do what I can to make my dogs ambassadors of the breed and I'll do what I can to fight against it."
