Justin Bieber Admits: 'I Was Disappointed in Myself'

The singer "was getting cockier and cockier," he said.

Now, the pop star is taking steps to right the wrongs of his rebellious past.

“I was rebelling a little bit,” he told Seventeen magazine of his younger years. “I was getting cockier and cockier. I didn’t have people to check me. I looked back and I was disappointed in myself."

And, according to a probation report filed Monday, he’s almost done with probation requirements in a 2014 vandalism case that caused $80,000 worth of damage to a neighbor’s home. Bieber has completed 12 anger management sessions and signed up for community service work, according to the AP.

“You have to own up to the mistakes,” he told Seventeen. “You have to say, I’m sorry if I’ve let you down. I always want to be honest and let people know that those mistakes aren’t who I am. Who I am is someone who really cares about people.”

He also says he no longer seeks approval on social media. “For a while, I was busy looking at my Instagram likes, and if a post didn’t get a certain amount, I was like, 'Aw, they didn’t like the photo,'” he said. “But there’s always a choice: You can let Instagram or stuff on the Internet affect your day, or you can choose to not be bothered by it.”

The singer now realizes he needs to surround himself with the right people.

“I need healthy relationships with people I can feel safe with,” he says. “People I can say whatever to, and I’m not going to be judged.”

Still, the singer reamined coy on his relationship status. But he knows exactly what he’s looking for in a partner.

“In a girl, I want someone who’s confident in herself and honest,” he said. “I have to find her very attractive and as someone I can see myself with for the rest of my life."
