Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez Continue to Uncouple In the Public Eye
The two celebrities were reportedly trading jabs recently.
-- Is there Jelena drama brewing?
After Justin Bieber threatened Sunday to take his Instagram account private, fans flipped out when Selena Gomez allegedly commented on the post.
The Biebs made the threat after fans started attacking his rumored new girlfriend, Sofia Richie -- a 17-year-old model and the daughter of famed singer Lionel Richie.
“If you guys are really fans you wouldn’t be so mean to people that I like,” he wrote on Instagram.
According to screenshots, Gomez allegedly commented on the post, writing: "If you can’t handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol - it should be special between you two only. Don’t be mad at your fans. They love you.”
Bieber, 22, allegedly responded, "It's funny to see people that used me for attention and still try to point the finger this way. Sad. All love."
To which Gomez, 22, seemingly wrote back, "Funny how the ones that cheated multiple times, are pointing the finger at the ones that were forgiving and supportive, no wonder fans are mad. Sad. All love."
It's surprising that Bieber and Gomez are still making headlines together, especially because they first split up nearly four years ago. Here's a timeline of their breakup to makeup to breakup.
A Little History on Jelena's Upcoupling
November 2012: Reports broke that the two had split because of too much time apart and distance.
January 2013: Despite being photographed together only a month previous, Bieber addressed their split in Billboard magazine. "I'm not in the happiest place that I've ever been," he said then. "I'm trying to get through what I'm going through. Like I said, I have my really close friends to cheer me up and keep me going."
January 2014: A year later, and after many loving social media posts about each other, it appeared the on-again off-again couple was off yet again. When Bieber was arrested for an alleged DUI on Jan. 23, the singer was riding in a car with a model he had been spending time with. By August, Bieber had accepted a plea deal in which he pled guilty to careless driving and resisting arrest and later had to donate $50,000 to a youth charity.
November 2014: At the 2014 American Music Awards, Gomez said she finally felt "over" Bieber after her performance of "The Heart Wants What It Wants." She told Elle magazine of the tearful performance, "I was so exhausted. I said, 'I want this [performance] to be the last time I have to talk about this. And acknowledge this feeling.' I was kind of devastated. I was like, 'This is all I have right now. This is going to be it. And all I want is to move on.'"
October 2015: By the fall, Gomez said she had successfully moved on from Bieber, even finding "closure" from their relationship. “At this point, there is no anger,” she told women’s lifestyle site Refinery29. “There's closure in a very good, healthy way. We’ve seen each other. I'm always encouraging and I am proud of his journey.
November 2015: During an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Bieber hinted that there was still hope for reconciliation. Especially after he had penned three songs on his album "Purpose" about Gomez: "What Do You Mean?" "Sorry," and "Mark My Words." He was even spotted serenading Gomez at a Beverly Hills bar. And Beiber told DeGeneres, "We have a lot of history together so it could possibly happen. I think we're both just on our own journeys, figuring ourselves out and once we've figured ourselves out we could maybe come together and make an awesome duo."
March 2016: Back in March, it appeared all was well with Jelena. Bieber even posted a throwback photo of the much-younger couple on Instagram. The photo showed the two kissing while standing in a pool. Bieber captioned the photo, "Feels."
