Kat Von D and More Memorable TV Walk-Offs
A lot of stars have blown up and walked off TV interviews in the past year.
July 29, 2011 -- intro: From bleep-filled rants to red-faced rages, television has seen its share of walk-offs and blow-ups. But lately, it seems, they're happening more often than usual.
Kat Von D stormed off the set of "Good Day L.A." this week when she heard the hosts gabbing about her recent split with Jesse James. Paris Hilton up and left an ABC News interview earlier this month when asked about her new reality show's sub-par ratings.
Of course, when stars lose their cool on TV, they all but guarantee that interview will live on in Internet infamy. (Maybe that's the point?) Click through to check out five of the most memorable blow-ups and walk-offs in recent TV history:
quicklist: 1title: Kat Von D vs. 'Good Day L.A.'text: Rule No. 1 of talk show appearances: Don't do them if you're dealing with personal drama and don't want to, well, talk about it. Von D made that mistake on Wednesday when she visited "Good Day L.A." to promote her reality show, "LA Ink," and heard host Jeff Michael mention her ex-fiance, Jesse James.
Michael explained what went down to Britain's MailOnline: "I was in the process of introducing her and we were airing the clip. She was standing in the wings waiting to come out but when she heard me mention the breakup, she removed her microphone and just walked out."
Von D announced her split from James on Twitter earlier this week. After the "Good Day L.A." the 29-year-old tattoo artist took to Twitter again to vent.
"Dear GoodDayLA, thanks for the waste of a perfectly good morning," she wrote. "Lack of compassion n respect for each other never fails to disappoint me."
Von D and host Jillian Reynolds proceeded to Twitter-spar over why, exactly, Von D walked out. Von D later told TMZ.com that she had agreed to talk about her split from James only if the hosts didn't mention him in their introduction.
She didn't stop there. Wednesday night, Von D posted a note on Facebook titled "What Can I say? I Suck," explaining why she refuses to apologize.
"Although my intentions were never to offend or hurt anyone's feelings, this isn't an apology for walking out on a silly morning show interview this morning -- and this isn't an attempt at justifying anything either," she wrote. "I don't expect people to understand, just like I can't expect myself to be able to please everyone at all times."
"Ratings. Sales. Publicity. The amount of followers I have on Twitter. None of those things matters to me," she continued. "Watch the show or don't watch it."media: 14181085
quicklist: 2title: Paris Hilton vs. 'Good Morning America.'text: It seems the original celbutante is sensitive about her status. Hilton walked out of an interview with ABC News' Dan Harris earlier this month after Harris brought up her new reality show's less-than-stellar ratings and asked if tabloid mainstay Kim Kardashian has stolen her spotlight. With a huff and a puff, she got up from her chair and walked off set.
Hilton later returned to the interview and revealed her plan for reinvention: "I've been doing this for 15 years now, so it's been a long time ... so just like any other business person or someone in the industry, it's always important to reinvent yourself and come up with new projects."media: 14181152related: 14114799
quicklist: 3title: Naomi Campbell vs. ABC News.text: Campbell's runway strut made her famous; her violent outbursts made her infamous. Last year, the supermodel stormed out of an ABC News interview and lashed out at a producer after she was asked if she was given a "blood diamond" by the deposed African despot Charles Taylor.
"I didn't receive a diamond, and I'm not going to speak about that," Campbell told ABC News before walking out and punching a camera in a producer's hand.
After the interview aired, Campbell was subpoenaed and forced to testify at Taylor's war-crimes trial. She didn't walk out of that one. media: 14181119related: 10446725
quicklist: 4title: Kanye West vs. 'The Today Show.' text: Kanye West can interrupt you. But don't Kanye Kanye. The rapper got upset in a 2010 interview with "Today" when, after talking about his 2005 comment that "George Bush doesn't care about black people," producers rolled a clip of West stealing the mic from Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. West stopped his musing on racism and asked Matt Lauer, "How am I supposed to talk if you're going to run this thing in the middle while I'm talking?"
Lauer explained that rolling footage during an interview is normal. West wasn't having any of it. "Please don't let that happen again," he said. "It's, like, ridiculous."
The sit-down ended soon after. West took to Twitter to air his grievances, saying he felt "set up" by the interview and that Lauer tried to force his answers. He then canceled a "Today Show" concert he was scheduled to give later that week, saying on Twitter, "I'm not performing on the 'Today' show for obvious reasons." media: 14181129related: 12129549
quicklist: 5title: Bill O'Reilly vs. 'The View' (and himself). text: Usually, in a walk-off situation, the subject heads for the door. The opposite happened on "The View" last October when the gang and Fox News host Bill O'Reilly got to discussing a Muslim community center that was slated to be built a few blocks from ground zero. Tension simmered. Voices were raised. When O'Reilly proclaimed the center should be moved because "Muslims killed us on 9/11," co-hosts Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg stormed off the set.
O'Reilly later apologized. But that episode was small potatoes compared to his own, legendary "Inside Edition" rant in which he worked himself up into a tizzy about a show-closer on his teleprompter, screamed at the prompter, screamed at his producers and finally screamed "F**k it, we'll do it live!"media: 14181063related: 11884596
