'Dancing': Kudos to Kate, Adios to Aiden
In a surprise, the "All My Children" star is booted as Kate Gosselin is spared.
April 13, 2010 — -- In a surprise that spared bottom-ranked Kate Gosselin once more, former "All My Children" star Aiden Turner was voted off "Dancing With the Stars" tonight after rambling through a rumba with his partner Edyta Sliwinska.
Gosselin had not only survived again, but she somehow avoided landing in the bottom two this week, a testament to the power of the reality show mother's fan base. The other half of the bottom two couples was actress Niecy Nash and Louis Van Amstel.
To be sure, Gosselin hasn't had an easy run on "Dancing," but things have begun looking up for her (on the dance floor, anyway).
She came in at the very bottom of the leader board on Monday's show for her tango with partner Tony Dovolani. Still, despite her low score, the judges gave her reason to hope that she'd dance again, calling her performance a "mini-breakthrough" and "a step in the right direction."
Two weeks ago, Dovolani raged at her lack of talent, venting that "Nothing in dancing is natural to Kate." As she nagged him again and again about the moves, he growled, "I've never been questioned in my teaching."
He finally exploded, "I quit."
The judges didn't take kindly to her lack of talent either.
Bruno Tolini cut Gosselin to the core after her first performance on the show. Dressed in what looked like a leftover costume from the set of "I Dream of Jeanie," Gosselin attempted a classic Viennese waltz to Billy Joel's "She's Always a Woman to Me."
"The technique was terrible," Tolini said as she stood stoic, like a school child bracing for a scolding. "It looked like Tony was pushing a shopping cart across the floor. You have to exude something!"
Luckily, Gosselin's got enough gigs to keep her busy post "Dancing" -- if she ever finds herself packing.
In August, the former "Jon and Kate Plus 8" star will launch a new series on TLC called "Twist of Kate." The show will feature Gosselin visiting parents around the country as they try to balance work, family and "other challenges life throws at them," TLC said in a statement last week.
Gosselin will also star in a series of specials called "Kate Plus 8" featuring her and her children in June.
She still has problems to contend with, though. She and her ex-husband Jon are due in court in Pennsylvania on May 25 for a hearing on his motion for full custody of their eight children.
Jon Gosselin's new lawyer, Anthony List, also wants to reevaluate how much money his client is giving Kate Gosselin. List claims the dad of eight does not earn enough to pay the current $21,700 monthly child support fee.
Last week, List criticized Kate Gosselin as an "absentee parent," according to The Associated Press.
Kate Gosselin's attorney, Mark Momjian, returned fire, telling the AP the allegations were "patently false."
"It's deplorable to make a comment like that," Momjian said. "I know Kate Gosselin is all about her children, and she's always been about her children."
