Kate Hudson's Brother Oliver Hudson Reconciles With Their Estranged Dad
Father and son are communicating for the first time in 12 years.
-- Oliver Hudson makes no apologies for his bitter post this past Father's Day, when he shared a throwback photo of him, younger sister Kate Hudson and their estranged father Bill Hudson, writing "Happy Abandonment Day."
But the angry post led to an unexpected reconciliation with his dad after 12 years.
"It actually started a dialogue," the "Scream Queens" star, 39, told Andy Cohen of "Watch What Happens Live" on Tuesday. "I haven’t talked to my father in 12 years. In my dark, crazy sense of humor, I posted this 'Happy Abandonment Day' thing, which everyone went crazy over, and I was just trying to be funny. And at the end of the day it was a good thing."
Bill Hudson divorced Oliver's mother, Goldie Hawn, in 1982.
"I had an amazing three-hour conversation with him," he told Cohen. "We’re texting, trying to see each other. So, you know, we might be mending something."
When Cohen suggested that "maybe your sister will get in on the action," Oliver just smiled.
"We’ll see," he said.
Bill, 66, initially reacted to his son's post by publicly disowning his two kids with Hawn.
"That was like a dagger to the heart," the father of five told the U.K.'s Daily Mail. "If what he wanted was me out of their lives, then he’s succeeded. I don’t want to see either of my eldest children ever again. It’s over."
