Kate Winslet Says Discussion About Gender Pay Gap Is 'A Bit Vulgar'
The actress also said that she hasn't personally experienced sexism in her job.

In an interview with BBC Newsbeat, the actress revealed that publicly discussing one's wage makes her "uncomfortable," and she finds the discussion "awkward" and "a bit vulgar."
"I'm having such a problem with these conversations," Winslet said. "Because they keep coming up, and I understand why they are coming up, but maybe it's a British thing. I don't like talking about money...it's a bit vulgar isn't it?"
Jennifer Lawrence recently re-ignited the conversation about gender pay inequality in Hollywood after she published an essay on the wage gap for Lena Dunham's newsletter Lenny.
While many celebrities such as Bradley Cooper and Josh Hutcherson have applauded Lawrence's public stance, Winslet revealed that she disapproves of the public discussion of money altogether.
"I don't think that's a very nice conversation to have publicly at all," Winslet said. "I'm quite surprised by these conversations to be honest, simply because it seems quite a strange thing to be discussing out in the open like that."
When asked if she had ever faced inequality in the entertainment industry because of her gender, Winslet replied that she had not.
"Honestly, no," Winslet said. "And if I'd ever been in that situation I would have either dealt with it or removed myself from it...I haven't ever felt that I've really had to stick up for myself just because I'm a woman."
