Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise Settle Divorce
Couple reach settlement less than two weeks after filing for divorce.
July 9, 2012 -- Less than two weeks after filing for divorce from Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and her soon-to-be ex-husband have reached a settlement.
"The case has been settled and the agreement has been signed," Holmes' lawyer, Jonathan Wolfe, said in an email statement today. "We are thrilled for Katie and her family and are excited to watch as she embarks on the next chapter of her life."
He added, "We thank Tom's counsel for their professionalism and diligence that helped bring about this speedy resolution."
Cruise's attorney Bert Fields told ABC News, "The Tom Cruise–Katie Holmes case has been settled with a signed agreement. Tom is really pleased we got there, and so am I."
Details on the nature of the settlement were not released. Holmes' lawyer Allan Mayefsky told ABC News the divorce was "amicably settled" but the "terms of the settlement are confidential."
Publicists for Cruise and Holmes released a joint statement earlier today from the couple, saying, "We are committed to working together as parents to accomplishing what is in our daughter Suri's best interests. We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other's roles as parents."
Holmes, 33, filed for divorce from Cruise, 50, June 28 after nearly six years of marriage. They have one daughter together, Suri, 6.
