Keith Urban Opens Up About Loss of His Father Robert
"He is finally at peace," Urban said in a statement.
-- Keith Urban announced Sunday night that his father Robert had passed away this weekend after a "long" battle with cancer.
Urban, 48, was quick to thank fans for their support.
"I've been deeply touched by the outpouring of love and support that Nic and I, and our family, have received since my Dad’s passing on Saturday night," Urban said in the statement, published on his website.
He continued, "His long battle with cancer is now over and he is finally at peace. My dad’s love of country music and America set me on my life's journey, and shaped so much of who I am today. Thank you to everyone who has kept us all in your thoughts and prayers."
The country star revealed last week while speaking at the Country Music Hall of Fame that his father had just entered hospice.
"I've just been dealing with that the last couple of days," he said at an event to celebrate an exhibit at the Hall of Fame in his honor, according to People magazine.
Kidman also lost her father, Antony, last September.
“Nicole and her family are in shock by the sudden death of her father," Kidman's rep told ABC News at the time. "She appreciates the outpouring of support and kindly requests privacy during this very difficult time. Thank you.”
