Kelly Clarkson Considers Retirement 'All the Time'
However, she said her daughters are the reasons she won't do it.
-- Kelly Clarkson is a Grammy-winning, multi-platinum global star who's achieved fame and fortune.
But these days, she says she'd give it all up to devote more time to her family.
Clarkson, who married Brandon Blackstock in 2013, has two children, River Rose, 2 and Remington, 7 months; and two stepchildren, Savannah, 15, and Seth, 10.
"It's just so hard to have normalcy. I love to sing, and I love to talk to people. ... It's just all the crap that comes along with this job. ... I'm never home," she said of fame in the new issue of Good Housekeeping. "It's hard when you have a family."
Asked if she's thought of simply giving up her career, she admitted, "Oh, all the time ... I have constant guilt."
"I don't have to work; I think it's because I have that option that I feel the guilt," she continued. "But it's important for my girls ... to see me as a woman accomplishing all these things while nailing it as a mom. I always come back to that."
Motherhood, she said, has had positive impacts on her self-image too. Now that she has a family, Clarkson told the magazine that she has become "next-level confident."
"I've never felt more empowered. I feel like my 20s were spent walking on eggshells ... not really expressing my opinion," she said. "As a mom, you just don't have time, so you get straight to the point. I go to bed every night and the list of what I've accomplished is astounding."
And still, she said, amid all the chaos at home and at work, Clarkson said that she and Blackstock make sure to make time for themselves, too.
"Brandon and I have a date night every night -- we'll get the kids to bed and go out by the lake with a glass of wine, and the next thing we know, it's 2 a.m.," she said. "We're tired in the morning, but we need that time to stay connected."
