How Kim Richards Is Coping With Loss of Ex Husband Monty Brinson
She remained close with Brinson, the father of her daughter Brooke.
-- Kim Richards is still reeling from the death of her first husband, Monty Brinson, who died in January at age 58 after a long battle with lung cancer.
"I miss him a lot," Richards told People in a new interview. "He was my best friend. I confided in him. He knew everything."
The "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star, 51, and Brinson remained close even after their three-year marriage ended in 1988. Brinson was father to Richards' daughter, Brooke. Richards also has three other children from subsequent relationships.
Brinson's passing came at an especially difficult time for the reality star, who months before had been arrested for public intoxication and shoplifting and made a return trip to rehab.
Now sober, Richards finds peace in knowing that Brinson watches over her.
"He told me he'd always be with us, watching and protecting," Richards told People. "And I know he's still up there pushing me to do what I need to do. He's our angel."
After Brinson's death, Richards posted a photo on social media of the two of them sharing a dance.
"I know we will be together again one day. I love you Monty," she wrote alongside the photo. "My angel in heaven ... and I know that we be together again one day. I will carry you in my heart always my love...until then, may you rest in peace."
