Kirsten Dunst Says For a Relationship to Work, 'You Need... A Woman to Be a Woman'
"Staying at home... cooking: It's a valuable thing," the actress said.
April 8, 2014 -- Kirsten Dunst has traditional views on gender -- saying that gender roles have become too blurred for her taste.
"I feel like the feminine has been a little undervalued. We all have to get our own jobs and make our own money, but staying at home, nurturing, being the mother, cooking – it's a valuable thing my mum created," she told Harper's Bazaar UK. "Sometimes, you need your knight in shining armor. I'm sorry. You need a man to be a man and a woman to be a woman. That's why relationships work."
Dunst, 31, who is currently dating actor Garrett Hedlund, added that she believes she'll "maybe" have children in a few years, and at athat point, she might try directing, but for now, she's happy to be an actor. This is a marked change from her childhood, when she tried to downplay her professional life.

"None of [my friends] were actors, really," she said. "I actually underplayed myself [at school] because I didn't want to be a target. The fact that I was an actress made me nervous. I never wanted to be called names or anything. I was afraid of that."
Should her acting career (or her relationship with Hedlund) end, Dunst said that she has a back-up plan in place. It involves a low-key life with her best friend from childhood, Molly.
"We're going to live together in a house," she said. "And who gives a s*** what we eat, and who cares how many cats we have? Because you know, you have your girlfriends for life."
