Lady Gaga Urges Fans to Support Electoral College Petition
Gaga has been vocal this week about Trump's victory in the election.
-- Days after protesting Donald Trump's stunning election win, Lady Gaga is encouraging her fans and supporters of Hillary Clinton to sign a petition that could prevent Trump from becoming the nation's next president.
Gaga tweeted a link to the petition with the comment, "If you feel scared about the current state of American politics and Whitehouse [sic] sign this petition."
The Change.org petition, which has more than 2.3 million signatures, requests the "Electors of the Electoral College" to cast their votes on Dec. 19 for Clinton because "Mr. Trump is unfit to serve ... Secretary Clinton WON THE POPULAR VOTE [sic] and should be President."
"If they all vote the way their states voted, Donald Trump will win. However, they can vote for Hillary Clinton if they choose," the petition reads.
Gaga stood outside Trump Tower early Wednesday morning after the New York real estate developer was declared the next president of the U.S. She held a sign that read, "Love trumps hate."
"I want to live in a #CountryOfKindness #LoveTrumpsHate He divided us so carelessly," she wrote on social media, posting a photo of herself in front of the building. "Let's take care now of each other."
After sharing the petition on Thursday, Gaga tweeted that she would pray for the future of this country.
"I [pray emoji] @realDonaldTrump @POTUS will put words of kindness out into the country. Tell the US u won't tolerate this. Students need protection," she tweeted, followed by a message to people rioting around the country.
Trump first called the protests "unfair" but then reversed course.
"Love the fact that the small groups of protesters last night have passion for our great country. We will all come together and be proud!" he wrote earlier this morning.
