Lauren Bush Marries David Lauren, Becomes Lauren Bush-Lauren
Rodeo after party reportedly planned for today.
Sept. 5, 2011 -- Lauren Bush, the model, philanthropist, granddaughter and niece of former presidents George H.W. and George W. Bush, tied the knot Sunday with David Lauren, the son of fashion mogul Ralph Lauren, at the elder Lauren's Telluride, Colo., ranch.
While former President George H.W. and Barbara Bush said previously that they were unable to attend due to the ranch's high altitude, the other former president, George W. Bush, did attend.
The bride wore an "intricately embroidered Victorian-style gown" designed by her new father-in-law according toPage Six. The bride was driven to the wedding in a horse-drawn carriage and then walked down the aisle with her divorced parents, Sharon and Neil. The Jewish ceremony was conducted by Cantor Angela Buchdahl, of a prominent NYC synagogue according to US Magazine.
While a representative for George H.W. and Barbara Bush told ABCNews.com last week that they would not attend the wedding due to the ranch's high altitude and health concerns, they reportedly sent a video message played during Saturday's rehearsal dinner. Along with President George W. Bush, former first lady Laura Bush, attendees included their daughters Barbara and Jenna and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, plus members of the Lauren family, according to US Magazine.
Elevation was not the only concern about the wedding.
Sharon Bush, Lauren's mother, endured a very public divorce with George W.'s brother, Neil Bush, in 2003 after 23 years of marriage. The divorce proceedings brought forth a bevy of details about the couple that were disclosed publicly and didn't exactly help the family's reputation. Among them: He engaged in extramarital affairs with multiple female escorts during business trips in Thailand and Hong Kong, he contracted herpes from one of these encounters, and she extracted his hair to either place a voodoo curse on him or administer a drug test, depending on whose testimony you believe.
A contentious settlement followed, and Neil Bush quickly got remarried to Maria Andrews, a former volunteer in Barbara Bush's office.
But will be plenty happening at the wedding to distract guests from potential family drama. Like ... a rodeo!
Yes, though they may be high society scions, the bride and groom to be aren't afraid to get down and dirty. According to the New York Post, the elder Lauren and his wife have planned a rodeo for today, the day after the wedding, in Telluride, Colo. Teepees, cabins and a saloon at the 17,000-acre Rocky Mountain ranch were all available for guests, which has been dubbed Double RL by the designer and was featured on "Oprah," will no doubt fuel the fun as well.
As for the question on many inquiring minds: Once married, the bride will likely not be known as Lauren Lauren.
"I think it will be Lauren Bush-Lauren," she said in the April issue of Harper's Bazaar." That's not final, but I think it's nice to have the same name as your husband. I am sort of old-fashioned in that way."
