Actresses and Sex Scenes: When Dad's Watching

Aug. 6, 2010— -- Some stars are never completely comfortable shooting sex scenes. But the thought of their parents watching them romp onscreen makes some actresses -- and actors -- downright squeamish.

Amanda Seyfried, Sienna Miller and Eva Mendes have all tried to shield their parents, especially dads, from watching their more intimate scenes. Even some actors, such as "Harry Potter" star Rupert Grint, have called the experience nerve-wracking.

As for the parents, the experience of seeing their sons and daughters nude (or nearly nude) on screen can be equally disturbing.

It's no surprise then that Oscar-nominated actor Laurence Fishburne is upset by his daughter Montana's decision to appear in a porn video. Nor is it likely that star of "The Matrix," "What's Love Got to Do With It" and "CSI" will be watching his daughter's small screen debut next week.

The 19-year-old, who will star in a hardcore pornographic video with the tagline "An A-List Daughter Makes her XXX Debut" has admitted that her father is "very upset."

"I heard that he's mad at me, but I haven't spoken to him yet," she told TMZ earlier this week. "I feel pretty confident that I can work things out with him. I think he wants to support me in everything I do, and though he sees this now as a negative, I believe in time he will view it as a positive."

According to TMZ, the actor's friends tried to block the video's release by buying up all the DVDs. Fishburne's rep declined to comment.

Montana, who has said she is eager to break into Hollywood and become a star like dad, claims she is taking a page from Kim Kardashian's playbook.

"I've watched how successful Kim Kardashian became and I think a lot of it was due to the release of her sex tape," Montana said in a statement through Vivid Entertainment, which will release her tape Aug. 10. "I'm hoping the same magic will work for me. I'm impatient about getting well-known and having more opportunities and this seemed like a great way to get started on it."

Vivid also distributed Kardashian and Kendra Wilkinson's sex tape -- but in both those cases, the celebrities claimed their tape was obtained illegally. Vivid claims Montana approached them about making her own porn.

Some are questioning Montana's chosen path to stardom. Why not follow in the footsteps of her father, who gained notoriety with a small role in "Apocolypse Now" and worked his way toward critical success on the big and small screen and Broadway?

Bonnie Fuller, editor-in-chief of Hollywood Life is calling on Kardashian to speak out. "I think that Kim as a role model has a duty to speak out here and say this isn't a valid career choice," Fuller told Fox411.com.

Actors, Sex Scenes and Parents

While mainstream stars are hardly doing porn, they still find the idea of their parents watching them act in their own racy scenes unsettling. Below are some of the stars who have banned their parents, especially dads, from seeing their on-screen romps as well as a couple stars who don't seem to mind.

Amanda Seyfried:

Amanda Seyfried brought her mom to last September's premiere of "Chloe" at the Toronto Film Festival, but told her dad to stay home.

The film, in which she plays a paid escort, features her in sex scenes with co-stars Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore.

"My mom can see whatever she pleases but I actually gave strict rules to my father to not come," she told entertainment website WENN. "He would normally come to my premiere and I am not comfortable with that. If he ever does see this film, he's gonna have to see it in clips. I just don't want to share it with him for a lot of obvious reasons."

Sitting next to her mom while watching her character have a lesbian encounter with Moore was uncomfortable enough, Seyfried admitted. "I didn't know what to do with my hands when the love scene with Julianne was on," she said.

Megan Fox:

Seyfried's "Jennifer's Body" co-star Megan Fox, with whom she has an on-screen makeout session, has said her parents don't have a problem with her steamy sex scenes.

She told Fox News last year when the film came out that her parents "don't care and are good about" watching her romp nearly nude on screen.

But Seyfried, who took her mom to the movie's premiere still had a tough time watching it, even if her mom was fine with it.

"She's OK, she knows it's acting but it's not necessarily OK with me," Seyfried said about her mother. "So it was difficult when my mom sat down next to me to watch 'Jennifer's Body'."

Eva Mendes:

Like Seyfried, actress Eva Mendes banned her father from seeing her first sex scene -- with Joaquin Phoenix in "We Own the Night."

"The Other Guys" star and Calvin Klein model was raised Catholic and once aspired to be a nun.

"I was cringing the entire time we were shooting it," Mendes was quoted saying after the movie's 2007 release. "I was scared about doing it and I'm still like, 'Oh my God, Dad cannot see this movie, Dad cannot see this movie! He would be mortified if he saw it."

Mendes recently released her own sex tape -- one she probably wouldn't mind her dad seeing. In a fake commercial for the website Funny or Die, Mendes' "sex tape" is actually just sticky masking tape, which Mendes says in the video will "take care of the nastiest, dirtiest and most flexible problems you have."

"Now, English isn't my first language," she jokes. "But it doesn't take a genius to know what tape is."

Sienna Miller:

Sienna Miller took her role in last year's "G.I. Joe," to spare her parents from having to watch her in another intimate or violent scene.

While promoting the film, she told reporters, "My parents are very supportive of my work, but they hate seeing me die, overdose or have sex on screen. I have to cover dad's eyes for those parts!"

"I've never done a huge studio movie like 'G.I. Joe,'" she said. "I felt like it was time to do something where I wasn't having a breakdown or addicted to heroin or dying at the end -- something that was really great fun and that people went to see and actually just had a great time seeing and weren't left damaged. I think my parents were also like, 'Please just stop doing these films -- you're killing us.'"

Rupert Grint:

Playing Harry Potter's best friend Ron Weasley over nine years, Rupert Grint has grown from a child to a young man.

In last year's "Cherrybomb," Grint shed his boyish image, as well as his clothing, to play a troubled teen indulging in drugs and sex.

"Filming it was a really nerve-wracking experience but the worst bit was watching it with my parents," he told London's The Mirror.

"It was agonizing," he said of his first ever sex scene. "The scene's quite tastefully done but it's not the sort of moment you really want to share with your mum and dad."

"When the scene arrived we all sat there not really saying anything. Afterwards nobody talked about it, which was kind of a relief," he added.

Daniel Radcliffe:

Grint's "Harry Potter" co-star Daniel Radcliffe appears to have fewer hangups about his parents seeing him nude.

When he stripped on stage to play the lead in "Equus" last year, he was quoted as saying that he grew up "walking around naked" in his house and nudity was never an "issue."

"I grew up always walking around naked, well not always, but it was never an issue in my house. I've seen my mum naked, seen my dad naked. I don't actively seek to find them naked, but it's never been a particularly big deal."

Kate Hudson:

Similarly, actress Kate Hudson revealed that she never had a problem watching her famous parents -- mother Goldie Hawn and stepfather Kurt Russell -- in sex scenes.

"It never bothered me," she told Britain's Telegraph in May. "My brothers might feel differently about it but, for me, I felt my parents laid it out for us pretty well."

"We always had a good perspective about sex," Hudson said. "When you grow up with parents in showbiz who are loud and funny and the life of the party, you get pretty relaxed about that stuff."

But that doesn't mean she'll allow her five-year-old son Ryder to watch her own sex scenes.

Hudson left Ryder behind while filming her next movie, "The Killer Inside Me," with co-star Casey Affleck. "I normally take him on the set with me, but not for that one. 'Mummy is going to be naked on the bed, smoking and getting spanked in the next scene, honey!'" she said.
